It can be a relaxing stress free zone where one could chill out and be one with nature but can also be quite busy with families and groups picnicking there in the field. Sometimes there are groups that organise cricket matches or football matches (usually at weekends). It's is also a place where joggers or runners use as well as cyclists and that can make the path very conjested and sometimes dangerous especially when there are families with young children. There is a kiosk that you can buy some snack, beverages and ice cream with few sit-down areas to use. This is not always open and when it does it does not stay open until its getting dark in the summer. Nonetheless it is generally quite peaceful and relatively safe as there are wardens that monitor the area.

Lovely piece of nature (lake snd forest) with wildlife just at the doorstep of my flat. If council could invest more money to keep it regularly cleaned it would be even more widely popular. Love to walk through trails, watch nature changing, sun peaking through trees, all the wildlife and say hi to dogs and their owners. Beautiful throughout all seasons. Fishing and dog walking is common early morning mid week. Weekend and afternoon for families. Edit, after 2 years: spring is fantastic time to see all the young wildlife and their families. Volunteers are doing really good job in maintaining plants and flowers. The council program recently renovated two tennis courts.

This park is a lovely place to go for a nice calm walk, when you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of London town. It has a cricket pitch and a lovely little woodland walk. There is a football pitch and wide open spaces to throw a ball, our little cocker spaniel loves it. My only concern is the amount of rats in an evening around the lake area. They are obviously out for a free meal from all the bird seed which is thrown around, not to mention the fishermans bait. Overall I would recommend for a nice walk. Just watch out for the rats :)

South Norwood Lake and Grounds

How very fortunate we Norwoodians are to have so much natural beauty preserved for all time around us, in our beautiful parks and open spaces. In our last Review, we visited lovely Norwood Grove, situated 300 ft. up on the Norwood Hills. Now we descend the hills and find in South Norwood a charming willow-bordered lake of eight acres in a sylvan setting.

South Norwood lake and grounds is a little splash of green in the suburbs of London. There is a pleasant walk through a narrow strip of common and around the remaining lake. There is an exercise trail to follow, too. Fishing is popular here at the many station all around the lake. As you near the boating club,there is a kiosk where you can buy refreshment, but unfortunately the toilets at the other end of the lake are closed due to vandalism. Pleasant place to visit. The lake had boats sailing from a local club. It even has a decent toilet facility for public use (which is a rare thing these days.) A welcome site: a kiosk selling light refreshments. When there, a team of volunteers with Hi-Vis were present watering the plants and taking care to inform visitors of the potential trip hazzard water hose posed...so as to prevent any occurence. The local youth cricket team were training on grounds, and they who were gone by...
