This was an all too brief look into a world of true Artisans. The work on display is prolific and awe inspiring. We could have spent hours here, every corner is filled with amazing and original creativity. The charming lady of the house, the wife of Sr. ‘Tito’ himself was attentive, polite and informative and it was a privilege to visit and wonder at the amazing work. It is entirely clear that creativity is much more important to the family than commercialism. We left the very proud owners of a beautiful piece which we hope will adorn our walls for years. Most remarkable about this outlet is its central location and the beautiful, ancient building in which the shop is housed. The ceramics artifacts on offer are at best average, coloration is by and large poor. Walk a couple of hundred meters, for example, to Calle de Valencia which is lined with pottery stores for a much better selection at more competitive prices. The owner of Alfarería Tito is in any way too spoilt with easy business, or why else would he - I witnessed the incident - arrogantly tell off customers for taking a photo of his patio (not his pottery) with an outrageous remark of "first you buy, then you take a photo"? A ver...yo con este sitio tengo un dilema. Cuando entro, me topo con Juan Tito, gran maestro donde los haya. Dos almas "Jipis" se reconocen rápido. Y dos sombreros originales, también. Tanta personalidad y carisma, tanto buen hacer y un lugar con tanto "Arte", ante mis ojos no podían pasar desapercibidos. Me hice fotos con él y me pareció un grande. Lo que es. Me habló de su trabajo con pasión y yo con pasión lo escuché. Estuvimos bastante tiempo, yo en un medio nirvana, la verdad, porque es tremendo. Me invitó a ver toda la "exposición" y quiso regalarme una piececita que yo no acepté por educación. Entré a una especie de patio y ví maravillas. Ví a otro artesano que me contestó muy amablemente a una pregunta. Eché dos fotos a dos piezas rotas que no por rotas eran menos bellas. Debiera haber preguntado si podía echar alguna foto, pero Tito estaba hablando con unos clientes y no quise interrumpir. Mal hecho por mi parte. Lo siguiente que ocurrió fué humillante. Con bastante mala educación y de muy malas maneras, Pablo, el hijo de Tito, me espetó en voz alta : Las fotos después de comprar!! y me quedé primero a cuadros y luego a rayas. Me sentí tan mal que se me saltaron las lágrimas. Juan Tito me vió y vino a disculparse. Cosa que le honra. Le expliqué lo sucedido y le dije que no eran formas. Pablo puede ser un artista estupendo. Ha tenido y tiene un buen maestro. Pero el saber decir las cosas también es un arte. Yo escribo. Quien me conoce y me ha leído, dice que tengo "Arte con la palabra". El señor Pablo tiene "Arte en la Alfarería". Pensé que le habría pillado en mal momento, pero por lo que he leído no es así. Y es una constante. Nunca subestime a un cliente. Y si alguna vez necesita del "Arte con la Palabra" no dude en consultarme. Por cierto Juan Tito, Feliz Cumpleaños atrasado!! Por supuesto mis 5 estrellas irían para Juan Tito.
