Parc El Palmerar is less of a botanical garden and more of a municipal park that is planted with palms and cacti of many shapes and sizes. It’s really well maintained and has a café in the centre. Unlike a botanical garden, this park caters for all sorts of activities. Kids can paddle in the water. There’s a zip wire. There are sports courts and even a BMX cycle scrambling area.

As we entered, a strange man could be heard loudly talking to himself behind a bush, creating a weird, Lynchian atmosphere. Parts of the park were fenced off, presumably as they’re still building it - though for something seemingly under construction the toilets felt like they were on their last legs (and had no soap). There was a dying pigeon on the main path for at least 20 minutes without the staff doing anything about it. Weird swirls of polluted foam dotted the ornamental streams, but at least the terrapins seemed happy enough (extra star) and there were a few cats.
