A good Marina with problems. The staff are great, they are both courteous and knowledgeable It's clean and well presented and in a great location to lay up and for a couple of months to wait for ideal conditions for an Atlantic crossing... and that's the problem. The airport is nearby and those with the money tend to fly home for a couple of months, those of us who are left behind to wait are not as weathly and are more careful with our money and will not pay the high prices of most of the shops. The Marina was obviously built with the weathly in mind but that is not the customer base who stays long term and will spend in local businesses. Hence the marina coffee shop is by far the busiest business on the Marina who just sells a few cakes and pastries at a good price. Also if you are on pontoon D or C (this is were smaller boats berth) do not expect to sleep on Friday or Saturday the noise from the nightclub starts at midnight and stops at 6am. If we knew before we paid we would have used another Marina. It's a pity really this place has great potential but missed it's target...
Read moreIf you ever get he chance to visit, I would definitely encourage you to try the mini cinema type place they have with the 3D clips/mini movies. I did a tour of the town first and then had some lunch in the marina. While doing my after lunch walk around the marina, my friend and I decided to try the 3D package. The cost was about 20euros I think and we watched three different clips. It was really exciting because it was my friend's first time in a 3D setting with that my much movement. I don't want to give away too much, but it's a nice experience. Additionally, if you are pressed for time like we were, it's a great opportunity explore the island in the comfort of the cinema. The attendant was very helpful and gave a great introduction before we began. We even got a small orange heart...
Read moreHands down the worst marina on the island. If you arrive after 4pm, you won't get a security card (forcing you to call a marinero each time you want to get through the security gate), no shore power to charge batteries and no access to showers until the next morning.
Unbelievable that the capital city marina on the island basically shuts down at 4pm. And it took 10min until someone replied on channel 9 at 8pm (!!!!) explaining that we won't get showers or shore power until the next day.
It doesn't matter how great facilities are if you cannot access them!! Rubicon and Puerto Calero are MUUUUUUUUCH...
