There is so much history in Cartagena!

We were only here for the day and walked from our cruiseship in the port to this museum. We were not disappointed.

I did not expect to see an archeological site such as the San Antón Necropolis within a museum. It was fascinating.

And the collection of artifacts was breath-taking, as we've had very little exposure to many nifty the things that were presented.

There is enough signage in English, for those of us who do not speak Spanish, to get a sense of the history and significance of the presented pieces.

We loved that several classes of local children were also there that day to...

It was one of the best archeoligical museums I've been to. Traces the history of the region over millions of years. It's free too. The staff were extremely helpful, giving us a quick overview, how to access our language using the QR codes, and the best path to take through the museum. And once inside, the artefacts are truly stunning. Full of priceless treasures, and all displayed very well. It's slightly outside the city, and there is ample paid parking in El Corte Ingles. Cartagena has many museums, this is one of the best.

If you like history and archaeology, you'll love the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena. There's lots of impressive artefacts, from prehistory through to the Middle Ages and beyond, with particular emphasis on the Romans. It's free to enter, too. It's slightly out of the centre of Cartagena, but worth seeking out if you want to learn more about the history of the city.
