Lovely beach with superb seafront promenade
This is a looong beach. Backed by a looong seafront promenade. Eventually, you will be able to walk all the way from Malaga town centre to Manilva in the west of the province along a seafront promenade or boardwalk. At the moment, you can spend 3-4 hours and walk all the way through Puerto Banus and on to the far end of Marbella, where the fishing port is in La Bajadilla.
San Pedro beach is pretty good as Costa del Sol beaches go. It's not Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, you haven't got light golden sand, but it is pleasant, and the sand is renewed each year after the winter storms have taken some of it away. There are odd spots where there is shingle at the water's edge, but generally it is good for both lying on and making sand castles.
The beach slopes fairly gently into the sea, although after 5 yards or so the slope becomes more pronounced and you are out of your depth quite fast.
There are trees on the beach, which makes it attractive and produces some shade. There are also sunshades and loungers to hire. Every so often there are Aseos – public toilets – on the beach or the promenade. Lifeguards are on duty in peak periods, and the beach is cleaned regularly. One area has a children's (free) playground.
Backing the beach for the whole of its length is an extremely attractive pedestrianised seafront promenade. It has a few bars, kiosks selling ice-creams, drinks, beach toys, but it is not in the least commercialized – there may well be 100 or more meters from one building to the next.
Forget Marbella, this is a different world, much calmer and more peaceful. There is also an enormous amount of greenery. This greenery hides the road (which isn't all that busy – it's not a through route to anywhere), so the beach and the promenade are both well away from traffic.
There is car parking all along the road, and even in mid summer you can usually find a place.
All in all, a great improvement on most beaches and seafront promenades in the...
Read moreConvenient beach with nice promenade close to San Pedro especially if you look for peace and quiet, cleanliness, yet close to lots of amenities. It's a long stretched low density beach. i.e. not too crowded, plenty of space for you to find a good spot, Very peaceful and tranquil ! Very clean waters. BUT there are plenty of pebbles which is perhaps the only negative. Long, stylish and well looked after promenade lined with beautiful and manicured subtropical gardens, clean toilets, ample little kiosks, not too many chiringuitos and no dog excrements. Its really a joy to stroll on this promenade. A top class restaurant at the end of the promenade towards the East side. Good views of the bay towards Puerto Banus. La Concha Peak as a backdrop. Silhouette of Gibraltar nicely visible towards the West. Very easy and safe parking.
Definitely a place in the...
Read moreA mediocre beach for bathing and swimming, as it has many stones on the shore and in the water.
There have been many attempts to improve the ecosystem by adding sand from other places, but the sea, unfortunately, continues to swallow the sand without stopping.
It includes a promenade ideal for walking or cycling, a grass area to lie down and relax, and even a barbecue area, an exercise area and (before, no longer) a...
