Dársena del Canal de Castilla — Attraction in Palencia

"The Canal of Castile was one of the most important civil engineering projects carried out between the mid-18th century and the first third of the 19th century. It runs through part of the provinces of Burgos, Palencia and Valladolid and was built to enable wheat to be transported more quickly from Castile to the ports on the north coast, and from there to other markets. However, with the advent of railways, it became obsolete.

It currently has other uses such as irrigation and water supply, in addition to being a powerful tourist attraction.

It was approximately in 1803 when work began on the Basin, a widening at the end of the Canal which was used for mooring and to load and unload barges. The two buildings on either side were originally grain warehouses and date from the first half of the 20th century.

The route runs through the scenic surroundings of the city's kitchen gardens, following the old towpaths formerly used by the mules that pulled the barges that plied the Canal. During the summer and part of the autumn, the walk benefits from the shade given by a wide range of afforestation trees (elms, aspens, poplars, acacias, willows, privets, ...), and in the clear days of winter, it offers beautiful views of the city.

SOMOS DOS PERSONAS ADULTAS, TENIAMOS UNA BOLSA PEQUEÑA, YO ALQUILABA ANTES LAS PIRAGUAS Y MI MUJER NO. AL SENTARNOS A LA PIRAGUA NOTÉ QUE TIENE BORDES MUY BAJOS, NO ME CABÍAN PIERNAS Y QUE EN EL FONDO TENÍA AGUJEROS. EN SEGUIDA EMPEZÓ A ENTRAR EL AGUA EN LA PIRAGUA Y NUESTROS PIES, BOLSA Y CULOS SE HICIERON MOJADOS. NO ENTENDÍ QUE PASABA, COMO ERA POSIBLE QUE PIRAGUA TUVIERA AGUJEROS, NO TENÍA BASTANTE ESPACIO Y TENIA LOS BORDES TAN BAJOS. SALIMOS DEL AGUA Y LO DIJIMOS TODO A LOS CHICOS RESPONSABLES DE ALQUILER. SE HICIERON LOS TONTOS, DIJERON QUE ANTES NO LO HABIA PASADO NUNCA ... Y PROPUSIERON CAMBIAR UNA PIRAGUA AL OTRA PIRAGUA IGUAL. ANTES DE SENTARNOS EN LA PIRAGUA NUEVA EL RESPONSABLE ME ACONSEJÓ QUE METIERA LA BOLSA MÍA AL SECCIÓN PARA LAS COSAS. POR SUPUESTO QUE NO CAMBIÓ NADA: ERA ABSOLUTAMENTE IGUAL, LA PIRAGUA SE SUMERGÍA AL AGUA Y EL AGUA ENTRABA EN LA PIRAGUA A TRAVÉS DE LOS AGUJEROS, RODILLAS ESTABAN MUY ALTOS Y ME EMPEDIAN CONDUCIR, LOS REMOS MÍOS Y MI ESPOSA SIEMPRE CHOCABAN, LA BOLSA EN ESTA SECCIÓN ESPECIAL SE QUEDÓ MOJADA COMPLETAMENTE. QUISE INTERRUMPIR EL VIAJE, PERO MI MUJER INSISTIÓ QUE CONTINUARAMOS. Y MÁS CUANDO INCLINÉ UN POCO MÁS DE LO NORMAL EL AGUA EMPEZÓ A ENTRAR A TRAVES DEL BORDE PORQUE ERA MUY BAJO. RESULTADO : ALQUILAN PIRAGUAS PARA NIÑOS QUE CEDEN BAJO EL PESO DE 2 ADULTOS QUE NO PESAN MUCHO, SON PIQUEÑOS PARA LOS ADULTOS Y MUY INCOMODOS. LOS JEFES Y EL PERSONAL NO COMENTAN QUE SON PARA NIÑOS Y QUE ES IMPOSIBLE ESTAR EN ELLOS PARA DOS PERSONAS ADULTAS, LES DA IGUAL COMO...
