MATER Ontzi Museo Ekoaktiboa — Attraction in Pasaia

Incredible experience. I happened to pick a day the guys go out to fish for rubbish floating in the sea. We did not catch much, but in some respects, this is the lesson. It's what you can't see that is a bigger problem. It's definitely worth visiting this incredible fishing boat, but if you get the chance, pick a day when they are having an activity. We were given quite an education on the effects of plastics on the environment. I definitely learned something 😀 The crew were excellent, very knowledgeable, and we're happy to speak English when I asked questions. This is a must visit! It's only a short bus ride from Donostia and is also located in a stunning bay... I've now started to pick up any plastic I see...

Great experience and the highlight of our trip. We went out on the boat to go collect plastic. Loved being on a real fishing boat, out on the sea and seeing the Basque coast from there. Unfortunately we found no to little plastic and half of our fellow plastic hunters got seasick but the overall experience was great. The crew were fantastic, helpful and super knowledgeable. We left with more knowledgeable about what plastic does to the seas and an invigorated desire to do better. Highly highly recommended to both...

Olaia gave me a fascinating and very enjoyable one hour tour in ENGLISH of the Mater. She explained all about tuna fishing, including demonstrations on how tuna are line caught. The Mater is a wooden tuna fishing boat that has been preserved and you are able to access areas below deck to see how the tuna catch is stored. The tour ended with a tapas.
