Txulotxo Jatetxea — Restaurant in Pasaia

Good food, bad service. We made a reservation online and when we arrived there the waitress put on the worst table, right next to the door and toilets - this was at 3pm and the restaurante allegedly closed at 3.30pm - the tables close to the window in the nice main room were all getting empty and a couple who arrived after us and didn't seem to have a reservation got a table from a family that had just left. When asked if we could be moved to a different table the waitress first said just "no" and when my partner complained a bit more as it was too close to the toilets she moved us a couple of tables up, still in the first room and not particularly good but not as bad as being on that first table.

The food was tasty but having to come over to this town and face terrible service I would not recommend it at all....

Según la referencia que me habían dado, no tiene el nivel que tenía. Fuimos la última semana de agosto a cenar. Al local le hace falta una mano de pintura-restauración. Nos colocaron en una mesa junto al ventanal, que hubiera compuesto una bonita velada, si no hubiera sido por la fuerte luz de la lámpara que teníamos encima, cuyo reflejo en los cristales por una parte nos impedía ver el mar, y por otra atraía a un montón de mosquitos diminutos que todo el rato estaban cayendo sobre el mantel. No pudieron solucionar este problemilla. Primera sugerencia: pongan interruptores individuales a las lámparas con regulación de luz. Respecto de la comida: pedimos un Beronia que el camarero no abrió delante nuestro ni nos dio a probar y además estaba caliente por lo que nos tuvo que traer una cubitera. Segunda sugerencia: en un restaurante de nivel el vino se tiene en cava a temperatura adecuada, se abre delante del comensal y se da a catar. Como entrantes comimos una rica ensalada de bogavante y unas sabrosas cigalas a la plancha , pero aquí viene la Tercera sugerencia: si los cubiertos se manchan (la ensalada tenia salsas de acompañamiento) y el comensal los deja en el plato, deben retirarlos y poner otros limpios, no sacarlos del plato y volverlos a colocar sucios sobre la mesa. Coronó la cena un magnífico rodaballo fresco que nos mostraron antes de cocinar. Y que hubiera sido exquisito si no le hubieran echado por encima tanto aceite que dio al traste con el crujiente de la piel del rodaballo perfectamente planchada.Y ésta es la última sugerencia: pongan la salsa del refrito en el último momento antes de llevarlo a la mesa, para evitar que ésta penetre en la piel del rodaballo y la deje gomosa, porque es una verdadera pena, ya que la carne estaba riquísima. En fin, son detalles que hacen de un restaurante una buena elección o...

Of all the great meals we’ve had in Basque Country, this tourist trap was by far the worst. Mediocre quality seafood paired with hosts that are not very motivated and friendly. But let me elaborate- I rarely give one-star reviews.

All of the dishes we had were of inferior quality and I assume most - if not all - of the seafood was frozen. The mussels on our mixed grill plate were still cold. The Cigalas langoustines tasted of ammonia and were definitely far from fresh. The clams were painfully overcooked and came in a tasteless starchy sauce.

What an awful meal and waste of time and money....
