Overall I think Cellar Perelada is pretentious. The land, winery and cellar are absolutely stunning, thoughtfully designed and clearly well kept and cared for. Parking was very easy as well. However, the tour was …awful. Most of the tour was done by video which just highlighted the wealth and the “importance” of the family that owns it. It is one of the only tours that I have ever done where I learned more about the owners than the wine. It was odd how showcasing primarily minority workers in the fields and 3 white (presenting) siblings dripping in wealth seemed appropriate when educating visitors about wine. Why not talk about the work that the workers do or the work that goes into producing the wine? It seemed like the siblings needed a moment of fame. In total there were probably 5 or 6 videos in the cellar IN ADDITION to the welcome video, that were equally poorly done and provided no information about the wine production, how different types of soil produce different type of grapes or what kind of grapes are grown. This tour really should have been marketed has a sensory tour rather than wine tour. The overall experience was generally disappointing especially as I had just done a really excellent tour at a much...
Read moreFriendly and (wine) educated staff who spoke very good English. Though the tour was disappointing - too focused on introducing their brand, the founders and the architecture. My family and I expected to experience the farm and taste the wine but the tour focused heavily on promoting their brand (watched nearly 10 different films about the brand story!). There no farm visit or the excitement of touching, feeling, smelling...etc. It felt more like a tour of the architecture. I highly suggest to the team to tone down company promotion (1 video clip is enough, definitely not 10 video promotions) and include the farm visit and also to have a longer time to taste the wine. 3 wine glasses were provided at the end of the tour and we were pushed to finish them in 20 minutes. One of the staff who was cleaning got rid of my 2 full glasses while I went to the bathroom. No time to enjoy, no time to chat.
On the other side, Celler 1923 lunch experience and the stay at Hotel Peralada were...
Read moreIf you love when architecture fuses with nature (and also love wine, of course) you have to visit this state-of-the-art winery. Perelada has a fascinating story and holds the distinction of being the first winery in Europe to receive the LEED Gold certification for sustainability. We had the pleasure of doing a tour and tasting, and let me tell you, there’s so much more to this award-winning place than meets the eye.
Beyond the elegant gardens and the beautifully restored historic estate (elevated beyond its original splendor by the renowned RCR Arquitectes), the real surprise lies underground. In just three years, they built an extraordinary subterranean production and storage facility that feels more like a modern-day wine cathedral than a cellar.
Don’t skip their restaurant and wine bar either, it’s the perfect way to...
