Restaurant El Centre — Restaurant in Peralada

Not too sure if we were unlucky on the day we visited, but clearly needs more training. We decided to sit outside. Me being used to strange service I go inside to order 2 coffees to kick off something. Lady at the counter doesn't understand me and mumbles something about a waiter coming to the table. Ok, 15 minutes later, nothing. Partner goes inside as I am already ready to leave and orders directly while explaining where we are sitting and that none of the two waiters has made it to our table. Ok, 7 minutes later we receive two espressos. Not flat whites as ordered. Eventually we receive the coffees. No one asked us if we wanted to eat anything. Then we wanted to pay....waiter says "yes, one moment". 10 minutes later I really had it and went in again to pay....conclusion: I saw more than 100 people eating and drinking. However there were only 2 waiters. That ratio is clearly not ideal. If they were short because of staff issues fair enough. Management should work on that. I am disappointed not being able to eat there, but it is what it is. Staff couldn't keep up with all those visitors. I feel sorry for the floor staff as they were running around like a headless chicken. Hopefully owners and management try to work on that. Lastly, not sure if tourism businesses should be learning basic English. As a tourist I already invested in visiting a place by paying for transport and accommodation as well as all other costs involved. It is only fair to see some commitment...

We found this restaurant very central in Peralada, very open, bright and airy.

It has a generous inner space but also outdoor terrace.

The service was prompt, speaking also french, and offering advices and tips to eat.

It was clean and more important, open and taking order late in evening.

There is a generous menu, with good prices for food and wine too.

They make very good escalivada and meat is prepared as I expected.

You should not avoid garlic fried bread, and escalivada with anchovies.

From my side I invite you to try it.

Saturday night, Restaurant packed and, waiters running up&down like crazy. Understandable situation though, kindly my wife, after literally 45 min waiting to be served, wanted to call the attention of what seemed to be the waiter responsable. She was shout at like never in her live. We understand busy night, but manners matter....
