My partner and I (32 yrs, 27 years) visited Grindelwald first. We booked tickets for the flyer online when we were still in Australia because we didnโt want to miss out. When we got to the ticket booth they told us that we did it the expensive way and therefore we had to buy our cable car and another activity, costing us an additional $274 aud. We were told itโs best to arrive early as it gets busy, so we did and when we got to the top we put our stuff in a locker and headed to the first flyer as the wait time was already listed as 150 minutes. We waited for 4 hours, got to the top of the staircase with only 5 people ahead of us and we were then told that it was too windy to go down and to line up for something else. I understand safety is the most important thing, but after a 4 hour wait there was no system to prioritise all the people that had just waited for a ride that had to close. There was no information given or signage to say that the ride would possibly close when the others stay open, otherwise we wouldโve done that instead from the get go. We then headed to the glider as our ticket covered both, and we waited 3 hours (until the ride closing time, 5pm) to use this ticket.
They were trying to encourage everyone to use the trotti bikes instead of the flyers or the mountain cart, as obviously that was the least busy, but if they canโt accomodate the people that have bought tickets they shouldnโt let people buy tickets.
My advice to anyone wishing to go here would be to arrive before opening time, buy your gondola only and then buy tickets to the ride once you have lined up/at the top. Most rides were โsold outโ and people were being turned away with no offer of a refund, even if they pre purchased tickets downstairs. The system is absolutely unfair and I wouldnโt recommend the experience to anyone, unless you are happy to line up for 7 hours to get on one ride. The only thing that saved the day for us was the fact that we were able to use the ticket we paid for after the 7 hour wait, and the view up there was beautiful and we are grateful to be in Switzerland in general.
We met another girl that was next in line for the flyer before it closed and she lined up all day alone and never managed to get on any ride. She had spent just as much money as us and she waited an additional hour to us too, so it definitely is something that a lot of people are experiencing. Wait times are expected, but 7 hours for 1 activity is a joke. The only reason we waited instead of going for a walk or to see something else that wasnโt a ride is because we had spent over $350 aud. Canโt say itโs worth the money or the time even though we hoped for a...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst time coming to Switzerland and grindelwald-First was the highlight of our (my bestfriend and I) trip, we loved it so much and said to each other that we shall be back again on our own time. The gondola to the mountain was right in front of our hotel and we were so surprised because we didn't know until we arrived there. We did the mountain First activities on a Monday, got into the line before they opened and there were already people lining up. Definitely recommend buying tickets in advance and also the activities. We bought 3 activities+ a gondola ticket with our half fare pass and we loved it. You won't regret buying several activities in advance because you will def have so much fun. We got into the gondola right away when they opened and got up to the mountain before the activities opened-the first flyer (zip lining). We decided to have a walk around to the first bridge and took some pics there (also found a scene spot of the CLOY there) and explored around to kill time, and found a snail on one of the stairs (couldn't resist not taking a pic or video of it-so cute). There was already a long line on the first flyer when we got to the first flyer and saw people zip lining down already when it was supposed to open another 40min. The staff was so nice to work extra early to let people enjoy the first flyer earlier than their business hours. There were 4 lines and 2 staff helping to strap us onto it. I appreciated that they started earlier than their official business hours ๐ฅฐ. After the flyer, down there the mountain carts were waiting and the first glider. We didn't do the glider and we went straight to the mountain carts, and we were descending the mountain one activity after the other. The mountain carts were based on the gravity, if you hit the brake too much until you totally stopped you had to push yourself to the steeper down hill to drive again. Some people stopped to take pics and enjoyed the mountain views. Next stop was the trottie bike and it was just like a scooter but based on gravity as well. It went fast and you must pay attention to it, I kept on pressing on the brake to control the speed. This trottie bike route took us back to the base, down to the gondola mountain first where we started. Along the way, we encountered some cars and be sure to stay in the trottie bike lane. When it was uphill, I just walked up with the bike -couldn't really bike it anymore. The whole experience was so much fun and would definitely recommend people to do these activities and to experience it. Also highly recommend to go as early as possible to...
ย ย ย Read moreWe did an adventure package today and it was great fun. Arrived about 9.15am. No lines for the Flyer so we got a locker (2Fr coin required that you don't get back) and had a bit of a look around. By 9.45 there were about 20 ppl in line, so we joined. Heard staff say for every 40ppl it's 1 hr. They started the ride at about 9.45. By about 10.20 we had done the ride and were at the mountain carts. It was about a 40min wait there. No line for the trotti bikes. With the Trotti bikes obvious caution is required. Here are my observations: There is no one to tell you how you should use these unusual bikes (like there is for the carts) like how you should put your feet, how to break, if you should sit back abit when going down a hill etc. So before heading down the hill, take some time on the flatter area to get used to it and how it works. descend the first hill very carefully and slowly. We saw two accidents there (one when we were starting and when we were in a gondola) so this is a risky area. the brakes on my bike were not as good/smooth as my partners, so i had to be careful the whole way, and probably went pretty slow, but it was still fun. i had the breaks on most of the time because, yes, it is steep. My hands got sore from holding them. we didn't know what the bag situation was with all the rides so we left ours in a locker at the very top. But you can take a bag and then have a picnic on the way down if you like. we were told at the mountain carts that it's a shared road with cars, but no one tells you at this station, so if you didn't do the carts, you might not know this. We hardly encountered any cars. Pull over if you do so...
