Zoo Zürich is a must-visit attraction for animal lovers of all ages. My recent visit to the zoo was a truly unforgettable experience that exceeded all my expectations. The zoo is spread across a large area and is home to a wide variety of animals from around the world. The enclosures are spacious and well-maintained, providing the animals with ample room to roam and play. The zoo's commitment to animal welfare is evident in the care and attention given to each animal, making it clear that the well-being of the animals is their top priority. One of the highlights of my visit was the Masoala Rainforest exhibit. This indoor rainforest is home to a diverse range of plants and animals, including lemurs, and various species of birds. The exhibit is designed to replicate the natural environment of Madagascar, and it truly felt like I was transported to a different world. Another standout feature of the zoo is the Africa section, which is home to a number of large animals, including elephants, giraffes, and lions. The enclosures are spacious and well-designed, allowing visitors to observe the animals up close while still providing them with ample space to roam. In addition to the animals, the zoo also has a number of cafes and restaurants where visitors can enjoy a meal or a snack. We went on a cold but beautifully sunny day, and we had checked beforehand and were aware of the large parts of the zoo that were currently under construction. However what we hadn’t realised, and what the zoo seemingly made a point not to mention, was how many other animal areas that were technically open were affected by the closures and constructions. We were there for four hours, walked 16000+ steps, and saw what felt like 5 animals. separately, the app…. I had downloaded the zoo app before going, as I wanted to see what animals would be on view, and it includes a map, which seemed very useful! I searched for penguins when I downloaded the app and whatever combination of words I tried, no penguins showed up. Weird, because I remember Zürich zoo being famous for its penguins. On entry, the first animal we see? Penguins. Not in the app. Not on the paper map we were given. Super strange! We mostly used the paper map, as it was more detailed than the map on the app - why?? - but at one point we were unsure where we were, so I figured having an interactive map would help… the map app isn’t interactive and doesn’t show your location in relation to the app. Again, why?? There just seems to very little use in this app, considering how much fuss the zoo makes about you downloading it. All around not the best day I’ve spent in Zoo Zürich, and definitely bottom five zoo visits in various countries in the last 10 years. Shame. But we fed some giraffes....
