my most disappointing night market experience in taiwan thus far. definitely do not travel here just for the night market considering both hsinchu area and taichung area have much better offerings.

one in three items was a disaster; out of the 6 items sampled, two were complete flops (deep fried egg scallion pancake and longan honey hong kong style egg puffs), one was good (deep fried boneless pork ribs), one was great (large sour plum flavor deep fried sweet potato balls), and two were ok but overpriced (large lemon aiyu small pearls drink and oyster large intestine thin rice noodle in thick dark gravy).

  1. deep fried boneless pork ribs (TWD 50) - very crispy, didn't feel oily, wasn't salty. a bit dry though.
  2. large lemon aiyu small pearls drink (TWD 50) - didn't really taste much lemon and rather expensive. small pearls were a bit hard.
  3. deep fried egg scallion pancake (TWD 40) - this was a complete disaster. felt very, very oily without any crunchiness or crispiness anywhere. have definitely had better. one soggy mess.
  4. longan honey hong kong style egg puffs (TWD 60) - exterior was not crispy at all as egg puffs should be. it was like eating warm soft pancake. that had a minimal amount of longan honey drizzled on top. mind you, when you drizzle honey onto the puffs, how can one eat the puffs one by one without getting one's hands sticky?
  5. large sour plum flavor deep fried sweet potato balls (TWD 55) - first, the balls themselves were huge, very chewy, and had a slight crispiness on the outside. sour plum flavor was delivered via the sprinkled sugar (i had thought it would be built in but alas it was not to be). portion is conspicuously generous, must try.
  6. oyster large intestine thin rice noodle in thick dark gravy (TWD 55) - i am no fan of a) eating large intestine as this organ is in constant contact with excrement and b) anything slimy.i didn't have this but my partner said the...

This is the famous night market in Miaoli. Its quite small only 50 or so stalls the encompass food, drink and old skool arcade games. Some notable treats to come here for include the best "rou jia moh" or braised pork pan fried pancake I've ever had in my life. Also there's a grass jelly stall that has superb hot grass jelly that jellifies as it cools. Theres also long queues for sweet potato balls and dumplings. Come here on Friday night for dinner. You...

A night market that does not open every night. It is located next to Miaoli TRA station. It is not that big and compared to Taipei's night market, it is more smaller in scale. Can try the fried rice stall, taste quite good.
