屏東孔廟原為「屏東書院」，建於清嘉慶二十年，為士子講學 之所。因為是文教建築，建物本身以古樸素雅取勝，不見雕樑 畫棟；不雕對聯，是循不在孔夫子面前賣弄文章古制。 從山東曲阜的孔廟，廟前照牆通書「萬仞宮牆」，屏東孔廟照牆上書「九仞宮牆」，均意指孔聖之學極其高深，必需得其門而入，才能見到「宗廟之美、百官之富」，充分反映出傳統書院的特色。 屏東書院孔子廟，可以說揉合了傳統書院及大成殿的風格。前殿奉祀孔子、孟子、顏子、曾子四聖，後殿奉祀孔子世祖。至於東西蕪廂形同書院齋房，則祀孔門四科十哲等成名弟子，及歷代經學家如鄭玄、朱熹等。 The Pingtung Confucius Temple was originally known as the "Pingdong Academy". 今天負責屏東書院導覽志工輪值。早上總共來了兩撥人，第一撥人是台大建築系的教職員工，他們看到我們屏東書院的建築工法很快地就認出這是民國66年漢寶德教授及其學生所施作的成果，期間也與我多所交流，從中我獲益匪淺，這是一趟非常好的導覽教學相長的機會，從他們建築系教授口中讓我學習增長了不少；第二撥人主要是對於文化方面非常有興趣的朋友，他們已經走訪了我們屏東的總圖書館還有宗聖公祠，本來是要到屏東公園裡面探尋朝陽門的，但是因為施工的關係無法接近城門口，所以順著路來到書院，雖然時間已近12點交班的時間，然我仍然願意幫他們作導覽介紹，讓他們感受到我們屏東的熱情以及屏東的文化軟實力...
