Review for National Taiwan Science Education Center (國立臺灣科學教育館)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As a STEM teacher, I highly recommend the National Taiwan Science Education Center (國立臺灣科學教育館) for anyone interested in science and education. Here’s my detailed review:

Educational Value: The National Taiwan Science Education Center is a treasure trove of educational resources. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed to be both informative and engaging, making complex scientific concepts accessible to visitors of all ages. The interactive displays and hands-on activities are particularly effective in sparking curiosity and fostering a love for science in young learners.

Exhibit Variety: The center offers a wide range of exhibits covering various fields of science, including physics, biology, chemistry, and earth sciences. Each section is well-curated with up-to-date information and innovative displays. Highlights include the life sciences section, which features detailed models and interactive stations, and the space exploration exhibit, which captivates with its immersive presentations and fascinating artifacts.

Hands-On Activities: One of the most impressive aspects of the center is the abundance of hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. These allow visitors to actively engage with the material and deepen their understanding through experiential learning. From building simple machines to experimenting with chemical reactions, the activities are both fun and educational.

Workshops and Programs: The center regularly offers workshops, lectures, and educational programs tailored to different age groups and interests. These programs are led by knowledgeable educators and scientists who bring their expertise and enthusiasm to each session. The workshops provide an excellent opportunity for students and teachers to delve deeper into specific scientific topics and develop practical skills.

Facilities and Amenities: The facilities at the National Taiwan Science Education Center are top-notch. The spacious, well-lit halls and clearly marked pathways make navigation easy and enjoyable. The center also has clean restrooms, a cafeteria, and a gift shop stocked with educational toys and science-themed souvenirs. The amenities are designed to enhance the overall visitor experience and ensure comfort throughout the visit.

Service: The staff at the center are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist. They provide helpful information about the exhibits and programs, ensuring that visitors make the most of their visit. Their passion for science education is evident and adds to the positive atmosphere of the center.

Accessibility: The center is conveniently located and easily accessible by public transportation. The facility is also wheelchair accessible, making it inclusive for all visitors. Clear signage and maps help guide visitors through the various exhibits and activities.

Overall Experience: My experience at the National Taiwan Science Education Center was incredibly rewarding. Today is my last day of visiting Taiwan from Canada. My experience at National Taiwan Science Education Center was so bad that I would not want to visit Taiwan again.

It was raining on yangmingshan so we changed our plan and came to the national science centre. My kids went to the 4th floor environmental exploration corner. There was a play area where there were books and toys on the shelves. When my 3 year old approached to play with one of the toys that was on the shelf, the other two kids wouldn’t let her touch them. I found it strange as there were like 30+ toys lining up on a shelf and they looked like part of the science center. When I went with my girl and asked if she could play, the Taiwanese parents said those were their own toys and if my girl wanted, she could play. I replied that if these were personal belongings, they could be put away because the way they displayed were confusing. That family felt offended and called the police because of “my attitude”. They came very close to my personal space, shouted, pointed fingers at my face and called me disrespectful. Totally felt it was the other way around. Wasted over an hour trying to deal with the police and the situation. My 3 year old were scared, pulling me away and wanting me to leave but the Taiwanese wouldn’t let me go because they called the police. My two other kids (15 and 12) were confused, (not understanding the language) kept asking me why people are shouting and crossing personal space in Taiwan and why police came...

A Disappointing Visit to the Taipei Astronomical and Science Center

My recent visit to both the Taipei Astronomical Museum and the Taipei Science Center was, unfortunately, a major disappointment. It's my impression that both facilities are primarily geared towards kindergarten and elementary school students, leaving little of interest for other visitors.

The most frustrating aspect of the visit was the experience with the interactive exhibits at the Science Center. The queues for many attractions were excessively long, and the worst offender was a particular musical exhibit. After waiting for nearly half an hour, I was disappointed to find that the experience itself did not live up to the wait time.

The issue was compounded by a lack of queue etiquette. A large family in front of us hogged the exhibit, playing three times in a row without any regard for the long line of people waiting behind them. They were simply following the behavior of the family ahead of them. This kind of inconsiderate behavior made the experience particularly frustrating.

I tried to seek help from the staff who were standing nearby, but my attempts were met with indifference. When I approached them, several staff members simply walked away, and one woman just stood beside us, also waiting. I regret not having complained earlier, as the staff appeared to be unhelpful in resolving the situation.

Given this experience, I will not be visiting either of these attractions again, even on future...

Spent a couple wonderful hours here and can say it's very worth the low 100nt entry for adults! Lots of families but also many younger couples on dates. The featuring wooden and glass sky bridge up top is just as gorgeous as always pictured. Our favorite was the QR & smart phone interactive "Dr. Brain" exhibit. What a fun adventure! You select one out of several "mission" cards which has a different "case" (a specific person who has developed an addiction to a particular substance) and go on a adventure learning about the different top kinds of addictions, how to define and categorize them, substances, effects on the brain, neural pathways, breakthrough research studies, etc. Start to finish very interactive, and you learn a ton and can participate in "quiz" style missions and see how you did at the end with all the right answers provided. We could see how adults and kids had a blast all around~ with more than 6 accessible floors, there is plenty of varied science related content to explore, from earthquake prediction and response areas, gravity and physics, geology, etc! B1 food court was closed for temporary renovations so we didn't get to eat lunch here - there were some food options including Mos Burger on F1 but nothing intrigued us - pretty standard fare. Hope to come back when it's open again~
