The duration to reach each point of interest on the trail (can vary depending on your pace and fitness level):

Trailhead and Entrance Time from Xiangshan MRT Station: About 5-10 minutes walk to the trailhead.

First Set of Stone Steps Time from Trailhead: 5-10 minutes The initial ascent is relatively quick, but steep.

First Rest Stop Time from Trailhead: 10-15 minutes This is a good spot for a quick break and to catch your breath.

First Observation Deck Time from Trailhead: 15-20 minutes The first observation deck offers a preview of the stunning views to come.

Six Boulders Observation Deck Time from Trailhead: 20-30 minutes This is one of the main attractions and a popular spot for photography. The climb here is steep but rewarding.

Second Observation Deck Time from Trailhead: 30-40 minutes Located further up the trail, this deck provides a different perspective of the city.

Third Observation Deck Time from Trailhead: 40-50 minutes Another excellent viewpoint, offering expansive views and less crowded than the Six Boulders.

Bamboo Grove Time from Trailhead: 45-55 minutes A serene spot midway through the hike, perfect for a brief rest and shade.

Final Summit Viewpoint Time from Trailhead: 50-60 minutes The top of Xiangshan offers the most comprehensive views of Taipei and the surrounding areas. Usually less frequented than the...

Continuous stairs but worth the view at the Photography lookout. It’s easy to miss this lookout, especially at night (no lamps on the path or the lookout pavilion). It’s after the first obvious wooden platform lookout with a map sign. After this lookout, keep climbing toward the peak of the mountain, and keep an eye on your left. You’ll eventually see a very inconspicuous dirt path that looks mostly flat to begin but the few steps then have wooden logs as a frame.

This Photography lookout is better in my opinion than the lookout at the peak, where there’s a sign indicating the peak at 183m or something.

Would recommend bringing a flashlight or using your phone if you’re going to be on this trail at night. While there are street lamps, it’s not consistent, and especially for going down, you want to make sure you’re stepping in the right place. Some stair steps are more flat in succession, while other stair steps are taller so be careful in...

Xiangshan Trail (象山步道) is a must-visit for nature lovers and anyone looking to experience one of Taipei’s most iconic views. Conveniently located and easily accessible from the city, this hiking trail offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and urban scenery, making it a favorite among both locals and tourists.

The highlight of the hike is undoubtedly the panoramic view of Taipei 101 and the surrounding cityscape. The viewing platforms are thoughtfully designed, offering ample space for hikers to take photos or simply admire the breathtaking scenery. If you can, plan your visit during sunset or early evening to enjoy the city lights—it’s a magical experience!

For those who want to explore further, there are additional trails branching off from the main path, offering quieter spots and more opportunities to immerse...
