Tianxing is at the heart of Taroko Natl Park. It has a small community with several hotels, little eateries serving local food, fruit stands, and a 7/11 store, all charmingly situated in Tianxiang. The area is also the last bus stop of Taroko shuttle buses including #302. Tianxing is as gorgeous as other sceneries in Taroko with its imposing mountains that you'll never grow tired of looking and photographing. The mountains are different-looking depending on the time of the day. So far as I'm concerned, I like it more early in the morning and after the rain when a speck of clouds hover by the mountain top. Tianxiang is a good option to check-in a hotel to, if you want to hike early in the morning and not going there via car/scooter. Shuttle buses start to arrive in the area at around 9am, so it may be nicer to sleep over in the area, wake up to gorgeous mountain views, and have the opportunity to start your day early by hiking straightaway before the shuttle buses arrive. Buses are the cheapest mode-of-transport among renting cars and scooters for sightseeing. But note that buses leave strictly on schedule, at least in Tianxiang (and Xincheng, the 2 end destinations), so plan your activities accordingly.
