Months before our travel date, we made several schedule changes, and these requests have been dealt with and met our requirements, thanks to the patience of the reservation staff. On our date of arrival, the receptionists and the bellmen we met were all courteous and hospitable, and they did impress us at the beginning of our stay.
We stayed in a Japanese-style room, and it was pretty spacious and clean. All the furniture and facilities were kept tidy, the bathroom was also clean from the floor to the sink, and from the toilet to the shower.
Outdoor facilities including rooftop swimming pools, jacuzzi, and poolside loungers were all well-maintained. An energetic lifeguard was present to look after guests and provide photoshoot service. Complimentary water is provided, and you were welcome to order drinks around the fireplace area.
We considered one of the highlights to be the food served at dinner and breakfast. The dishes were diverse with numerous different types to choose from. From the taste of the dishes and the diversity of the menu, you can tell that they were carefully curated by experienced chefs who were eager to combine local ingredients into dishes to spark new ideas and play with exotic flavors quite well. We stayed for two consecutive nights and most of the dinner dishes were different from the previous one, which truly amazed us. We did appreciate the hard work spent on making these dishes great and unique.
There was one thing that needs to be addressed, which was the service during one of the mornings at the restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant around 7.30 am, all the window seats except one 4-person table were occupied, and we mentioned our preference for dining at that table. The service personnel refused us directly and mentioned possible crowdedness later and the table was meant for 4 persons instead of 2. The whole room never got full that morning before we left around 10 am. From our staying experience in other foreign countries, a much considerate and acclaimed service would be for the service personnel to demonstrate flexibility in this matter, one can first save the table for late-arrival guests and inquire us later if we are still interested changing seats when no one really takes it. Great service should never start with refusal or inability but should start with understanding, consideration, and flexible arrangement.
We truly enjoyed our stay and we did hope that certain services can be further improved and elevated, making Silks Place Taroko a renowned accommodation not just in Taiwan but internationally famous for...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to stay at Silks Place Taroko after all my friends recommended it. It was a wonderful experience! We booked the 3 day 2 nights package on the hotel's website and chose the 儷人客房. The room is Japanese style with the bed close to the floor. I was worried it'd be uncomfortable for my husband who is quite tall but he didn't have any complaints. The bathroom was very nice with the toilet on its own separate enclosed space. Bath salts and essential oil were provided and there was even one of those bath pillows for your head. There were plenty of snacks and drinks in the mini bar which were fully replenished the next day. It is an older hotel but it doesn't feel dated. Everything works well and the room was spotless. There were even multiple pillow options. The service was excellent from start to finish. We were given a full explanation of the facilities in the lounge as our check in was being processed. My husband, who is white, appreciated the English explanation. The staff were very attentive without hovering. Ivy provided excellent service at mealtimes and was one of the best servers we've met. We enjoyed both the Wellesley Buffet and the Mei Yuan Chinese restaurant. Buffet selection was very good for both breakfast and dinner. The desserts were wonderful and there was a good selection of Western and vegetarian options for breakfast. We were pleasant surprised at buffer dinner our second night when the staff told us they will serve my husband additional vegetarian dishes! We hadn't informed the hotel that my husband is vegetarian as he is open to trying meat options while experiencing Taiwan and the hotel has vegetarian options in the buffet. We were presented with 4 or 5 very well presented and delicious vegetarian dishes. My husband enjoyed them all! He was offered seconds but declined because he had his eyes on the fried 山藥卷 and was also craving Western food again. The view from the roof was stunning - the rooftop pool is definitely with checking out. They even have a yoga room with Windows on all sides so you can look at the mountains while you do your yoga! We had a wonderful experience and will definitely recommend Silks Place...
Read moreHighlight: (1) hospitality: the staffs were willing and friendly to help. We were lended with torch and helmet before visiting near by trials and that was really helpful (2) we asked for extra bed sheets and the staff had quickly managed to send the sheets to the room (3) the design of light control penal and charging ports, very convenient and easy to use. (4) breakfast and dinner: well prepared and more than what could be expected in a mountain (5) though old but the environment was maintained well
Lowlight: (1) hospitality: we were invited to sit on the resting area of the lobby after entering the hotel, but we were only told to stay at the resting sofa but there was no one following up or escorting us to the counter for the actual check-in (2) dehumidifier: it was turned on when we checked in the room, and it was pretty loud, and it had efficiently caused the room to become super dry, and therefore we ended up super thirsty and had really bad sleeping quality due to the noise of both the dehumidifier and air con. (3) sound prevention: the neighbor either next or above our room had caused a lot of noises, stepping hard on the floor or making vibration on the walls or beds, we were pretty annoyed, if the design of the sound prevention could be improved the room charge should be a better match to the values. (4) the rooftop swimming pool and jacuzzi: the showering and cloth changing area were pretty limited, only one changing room and two public showering; it will be much more appreciated if there’s full bathing facilities which people do not need to wear robe or bath towel rushing back to rooms for cleaning afterwards. (5) Less/ no intro towards the available activities, attractions and available transportations to near sites (6) the clock was not reset from previous guests, therefore we were waken up at 6 due to the alarm set by others (7) the toilet flash was weak, and toilet was...
