This is absolutely, positively NOT a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. I have stayed in various types of lodging and in many countries over the years -- from hostels to 5 star hotels -- and this hotel is by far the worst hotel I nearly stayed at.||||I was traveling with my wife and infant child. We stayed at a 5 star hotel for the duration of our scheduled visit. Our flight out of Chiang Mai was cancelled due to rain, so the airline took us to this mystery hotel. I didn't have a chance to read any reviews about this hotel ahead of time because the airline didn't inform us ahead of time about which hotel we were being taken to.||||Given that Chiang Mai has various clean and respectable 2-3 star options, I trusted that the airline would take us to a good hotel.||||When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by two men at the check-in counter. It appeared that only one of them was in proper uniform. After collecting our passports, we were given a single regular door key (not two plastic keycards). The key had a piece of thick metal that was attached to it. This piece of metal was about the size of a business card and it served, as we later found out, as the card to operate the room's lights.||||We went to the elevator and the elevator was old and small. Once the doors opened on our floor (which I can't recall now), the hallways were all gray. The walls and the floors were plain with no decorations whatsoever. There was a terrible reek in the hallways and the grey emptiness filled me with a terrifying sense of foreboding.||||When we opened the door to the room, there was a stale and offensive smell there to greet us. I will not insult bears by comparing the room to a bears' den right after hibernation. It just smelled indescribably bad.||||I reached for the AC thermostat in the rooms to turn the AC on, and the thermostat came off the wall. The room had no AC -- only warm air blowing out of the single vent.||||The furnishings in the room were antiquated, and the bedding looked old and in desperate need of replacement. The nightstands, headboard, and all the walls near the bed were all dirty. ||||I tried calling the front desk to get our room changed but there was no answer. I wen't downstairs and saw a really long line of the cancelled flight's passengers still waiting to get their room.||||It was hopeless.||||I got on the phone and called the Holiday Inn (which by the way, is closer to a 3 star hotel than a 4 star hotel in Chiang Mai). I reserved a room by phone and I called a car.||||The car arrived in about 4 minutes and we left the hotel. ||||I always read both good and bad reviews on TripAdvisor and Expedia before booking any hotel rooms. The reviews have thus far proven reliable for me 100% of the time. Please read the reviews for this hotel if you're thinking about...
Read moreNot a good experience for me at all. The room was dimly lit, so much so that I had to use a flashlight to get clothes out of my bag. The beds were too low to the ground and the pillows were rock hard. There was no English television, and whatever Thai channel;s that did come through it was dis colored and static the whole time. My shower curtain was stained brown, tacky outdated furniture , and the room phone must've been from the late 90s. The laundry service through the hotel cost over 1000 baht just for a few articles of clothing between two people. There is only one key available per room. The pool is in the shade more than half the day and the view from the pool is a broken down building. There is barely ANY wifi, as opposed to the FREE WIFI that they offer on the website, not enough signal anywhere in the hotel to even send an email or pictures between friends from day events. As soon as I would get a connection it would cut out. For the money I spent on my stay here, it was a terrible investment. I would not recommend this hotel to any travelers. Also there is a huge language barrier between the front desk and the guests. For example, I asked them to call me a cab to take me to the OFFICE (with an address clearly on the paper) of the naturepark for rescued elephants in downtown Chiangmai, they called a taxi that brought me over 60 km to the actual nature park, costing me over 1000 baht and almost made me miss my tour and experience at the park. An all around Overwhelmingly awful experience. There are much better places to stay...

My recent stay at Lanna Palace 2004, an established hotel with a lengthy history, unfortunately failed to meet the expected standards of service and quality. Despite its convenient location, providing accessibility to the town and night market areas, there were significant drawbacks.
One notable concern was the staffing situation. While there were typically 2 to 3 staff members available, their English proficiency was lacking. This, coupled with a subpar service experience during check-in, reflected a lack of efficiency and attention to detail.
Room maintenance was another issue, with outdated and cumbersome room keys leading to poor lighting due to malfunctioning lamps. Safety concerns arose from the slippery bathtubs, posing a potential hazard, especially for elderly guests.
Moreover, the hotel's room amenities fell short, as evidenced by the low-quality towels and the absence of basic amenities like tea or coffee, for which room service was suggested instead.
The elevator operation was also problematic, as only one of the two passenger lifts was operational, resulting in prolonged wait times for guests. Additionally, inadequate soundproofing in the rooms affected the overall quality of the stay.
In conclusion, based on these observations, I cannot recommend Lanna Palace 2004 as a satisfactory accommodation option in Chiang Mai. It appears that the hotel is not meeting expected standards in terms of service, amenities, and overall...
