Kamala Beach is a relatively quiet beach in Phuket, just north of Patong. The town supporting the beach is a bit drab. The beach itself isn't spectacular. A backwater stream runs almost parallel to the beach and divides the beach in two. A neglected southern half, and a more popular northern one, fringed with coconut and fully grown casuarina trees. At high tide, the sea is really rough, and the waves reduce the beach to a very thin strip. On the plus side, it gives surfing opportunities and it's possible to sit in shacks under the trees and enjoy a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It's really a great place to chill if you don't like crowds. Some small resorts with pools open on to the beach, making them a great place to stay, if you're a beach lover. A road running behind the beach and accessed by pedestrian walkways over the backwater stream, has some interesting restaurants. One of the main reasons is that swimming from the beach is very safe, also for children.

There are no dangerous currents. The waves are not as big and wild as you can experience on other beaches.

And there is a large area in the water that is shielded with ropes so you can swim in peace without worrying about Jet Ski and other boats.
