It was a terrible experience for me. My first impression when I entered the hotel was that it was old, very old, like it was built during the time of Napoleon. The air conditioning and the exhaust fan were making noises like tractors. The air conditioning had a switch on the wall, like something from the 1950s. There was a control panel for lights and music at the head of the bed, but when I touched it, the sticker on the control panel peeled off, revealing buttons and electrical circuits underneath. I didn't dare to use it anymore, and the music wasn't working either. There was water dripping from the ceiling onto the floor, and I had to call hotel staff to clean it up. The next day, it seemed to be better, and I didn't see any more water dripping. I changed clothes and went for a walk, but as soon as I touched a streetlight, it immediately fell over onto the road. I hurriedly picked it up and continued walking, not daring to touch any more streetlights. Breakfast at the hotel was also terrible, the food was mediocre, and there was nothing delicious. It was supposed to be a 5-star hotel, but it felt more like a 3-star one. I stayed there for 5 days, from September 2nd to September 7th, 2023. On the third day, when I returned from an outing, I couldn't open the door. I called the reception, and they sent someone, but they couldn't open it either. After a while, someone came with a laptop and connected a cable to it, and only then was the door unlocked. The technician said the door lock had run out of battery, and they replaced the battery and left. The peak of the frustration came on the morning of September 7th. After having breakfast, I returned to my room to pack my things to go to the airport, but I couldn't unlock the door again. It was already 8:45 AM, and the car was going to pick me up to the airport at 9 AM. I frantically called the reception, and although there were 2-3 people there, none of them came up. They assumed that my card was locked because I had checked out, even though I hadn't checked out yet. They then reactivated my card, but when I tried to swipe it, the door still wouldn't open. I rushed downstairs, and sweat started pouring down my back. After a while, they sent a housekeeping staff with another card, but when I entered the room, all my belongings were gone, and all it was someone else's stuff. I panicked and called the reception, asking where my things were, my laptop, my luggage? In my head, I couldn't believe that they had cleaned the room and let someone else checked in so quickly. I had never seen a hotel take a guest's belongings like that. The reception staff was also confused, but they didn't come up to see what had happened; they just talked over the phone. After calming down, I realized that the housekeeping staff had mistakenly opened the door to the adjacent room, not mine. At that moment, I was in such a rush that I didn't even notice the mistake and ran into the wrong room. I ran outside, luckily, the housekeeping staff was still cleaning another room nearby. I called her over to open my room, but the door still wouldn't unlock. Finally, they sent a technician with a laptop, and only then was the door unlocked. The technician explained that the door had shut too hard, causing the batteries to dislocate. Oh my God, the batteries can come loose? It was the first time I had heard of such a thing in a 5-star hotel! Finally, I managed to get into my room. I quickly packed my belongings, checked out, and headed straight to the airport. By that time, it was almost 9:45 AM. Luckily, there was no traffic, so I still made it to my flight on time. When I checked in, I had made a deposit of 6,000 THB, but more than 10 days after checking out, I still hadn't received that money back. I called the hotel this morning, and they said they needed to "check" it. It seems like if I hadn't called, they would have forgotten about it. They asked me to send them an email. I did, but I haven't received any response yet. I'm not sure when I will get my...
Read moreA hotel of magnificent splendour, set in 75 acres of beautiful and thoughtfully landscaped grounds, guests arriving by taxi or coach are welcomed in a separate area away from the main hotel, here you are transported by the hotels own transport service up to the reception area, a huge, imposing entrance draws you in where your luggage is swiftly collected and you’re ushered up to the main desk, where upon our arrival, there are three staff dealing with checking guests in.
Initially, we were situated on the 5th floor with supposed garden views, this was an understatement, the vista encompassed a large swathe of ocean view too.
The gardens were immaculately kept with multiple pathways that twisted across the lush greenery. Several lakes also punctuate the walks, a breathtaking place without any doubt.
This hotel boasts multiple very stylish pools - our favourite being one which looped around underneath a building, it comprised of a raised walkway with a torus rock water feature, where the water dropped through a large opening into the pool below, this appeared as a cave area within the loop.
At the edge of the cave it then pours as a waterfall into a second pool that is fully external. The thought that had gone into the design was refreshing and added well to the experience.
Another equally interesting pool, laid out in multiple sections is located closer to the main hotel.
Our first room was a short stay owing to some odious aromas cropping up several times a day, we called to complain about the smell and someone came to see if they could do anything with the drains.
The following day the smells reappeared, so after another complaint they re-located us to a stunning room on the 10th floor with full on sea views.
From here the giant Buddha was visible over the hills and the entirety of Karon beach was visible.
The room was amazing although the bed was smaller by far than previous room, it was still a kingsize.
We were so impressed by the room that we decided to extend our stay in Thailand by and additional 6 days and attempted to re-book this room.
I went to Reception to ask about availability and costs and I spoke with Plow and after some whispering between her and her male colleague, I was was given a piece of paper with the cost written down.
Following discussions with my partner, we both went to Reception and decided to go ahead with the booking. As Plow was not on Reception we spoke with Golf, a character that should not be greeting or dealing with any member of the public given his appalling attitude, the price he offered was even higher, when questioned why the price he gave was inflated by comparison to the other receptionist he simply sneered. In my opinion this is disgusting behaviour for front of house staff who are there to represent your establishment. There was a feeling in the air that they were still serving the Hilton and we were not good enough to be in residence there.
My partner, who’s fingernails were a work of art and quite lengthy had a manicure in the spa, when she came out she was in tears, her nails ruined and her fingertips sore, the lady dealing with her appeared to have all the confidence but with no compassion or abilities.
If it wasn’t for those two issues then I absolutely would not have been able to fault the place.
On a better note, the carriage handlers and restaurant staff were all so helpful, genuine and honest. Maybe swap your staff around and put the front of house staff as toilet cleaners instead?
The food on offer was nothing short of fabulous, with such an array of choices available at all meal times.
Another lovely touch is that a security guard is located outside by the main road for most of the day to help guide those staying, safely across the road.
Overall the stay was great but as long as the reception staff remain, we will never be visiting this...
Read moreThis hotel is fantastic. We wanted to be away from Patong and stay in Karon for 10 nights which is much quieter as we were travelling with our parents and 2 kids under 2. And we couldn’t of picked a better spot. We stayed in joining rooms which helped out with the kids a lot having the grandparents right next door to share the load. The rooms are very large and have room for 2 travel cots that we brought with us. (We just moved the desk they had to also make some more space)
We had beach views which is stunning you can hear the waves crushing at night, however the mountain side view is also nice if you didn’t want to pay the extra.
The staff are actually unbelievable and so accommodating in every single way. I cannot fault them they are so kind and helpful and so good with the kids!! We loved of the meals here. The kids menu is easy and simple. Breakfast buffet was incredible and heaps of options for a toddler too.
There was kids club which was great especially when there was abit of rain around and you didn’t feel like going in the pool They had life jackets and floating for the kids if you didn’t bring any The pools aren’t overcrowded at all and the hotel was booked out when we went (in August)
There was some rain around but there is heaps of sheltered areas you can sit in. The rooms have 1 umbrella which is good. I bought ponchos from home but also not necessary as they are sold almost at every corner when you leave the resort.
The Koran cafe at the hotel also had great iced coffee. There is also a shuttle bus which we used to help us get around as we had elderly parents and small kids in travel prams. The tram is so easy and the staff help with everything. We just loved every minute of it here. We met Christian the Hotel manager He was there when we were checking in. And he came and introduced himself one day at lunch at the Sails restaurant. So professional and kind.
We used the kids club almost every day which the kids loved. All the pools are kid friendly we loved the slide at the Garden pool the most.
I went and had a Thai massage at the spa as a birthday treat to myself if was lovely so relaxing and a beautiful spot and was a nice walk from the lobby area.
The hotel has changed from a Hilton to a Pullman and you can see there are still some very minor teething issues that they are working through, ie leaves in pool, under cover area at the Sails breakfast area might need to be better when it rains to help accommodate busy breakfast times, some of the signage around the place seems slightly out of date, lunch and dinner menu at Sails is very few options, but restaurants are a 10 min walk if you wanted to try food from outside the resort and some of the hotel lobby staff are still learning so they just take some time to get checked in but they are just so lovely that you don’t even care. The welcome drink helped while we waited.
I feel like in 12 months they would of resolved the smaller minor details and this place would be even better!!
We asked (via email) for a microwave and an extra kettle as I am bottle feeding my baby and everything was already there when we checked in. Was nice and easy. Rooms had glassed bottled water complimentary daily which was good We also bought bottled water from the market down the way for the kids, super easy.
There is a security guard that helps you cross the road to the beach footpath area so if your stressed about crossing the road there is help.
There was 2 other restaurants in the resort we didn’t get to try so there are options for people that don’t want to venture out.
We tipped a few of the breakfast, pool staff staff and cleaning staff towards the end of our stay we just felt like they absolutely deserved it I wish we could of given them all extra but we did...
