"Songkhla" has been located on the eastern side of Thailand since ancient times. There are ancient communities and old cities, with ancient sites, antiques, customs and traditions. and many local games Songkhla recently appeared for the first time in the records of Arab-Persian merchants and sailors between 1450 and 1550. in the name of the city of Singur or Singora, but in the book Natural and Political History of the Kingdom of Siam by Mr. Gilolas Servais, the name of the city of Songkhla is called "Muang Singkhon", so it is assumed that the word Songkhla Distorted from the name "Singla" (pronounced Sing-ha-la) or Singkhon.

His Majesty King Chulalongkorn There was a royal ruling that "Songkhla" was formerly known as Sing Nakhon (pronounced Sing-ha-na-ka-ra). The vowel sound is at the end. The Malay didn't like it so he changed it to Ah. And the Malays speak quickly with their tongues, taṭha and na, only choosing Sing-ka-ra, but pronouncing it as Chingkara or Singkora until it is called Singora.

“Songkhla” is a historical city with many stories that have been passed down since prehistoric times. Evidence has been discovered, including stone axes, which were prehistoric tools. At Sathing Phra District History and culture during the reign of Sathing Phra K. Burlbet gave the view that Sathing Phra was the center of the Sia Tho or Sek Tho Kingdom. It is one of the sites in southern East Asia that received the Indian Dodong culture during the Srivijaya Empire. for at least 7 centuries because there are architectural traces and sculptures that show that Muang Sathing Phra was the administrative center for the territory around Songkhla Lake at that time. Laem Samila, also known as Laem Hin, is in the municipal area. There is a clean white sand beach, shady pine trees, and the seaside of Songkhla. Which is like a natural living room that has welcomed visitors until today. Samila Beach is in the northern part of the seashore in Songkhla city, next to Laem Son On, stretching to Laem Samila at the end of the beach on the southern side. It is a beautiful beach, worth walking around, with fine white sand, the water is not very deep, good for swimming. The entire length is arranged as a place to relax and have a jogging track. Viewpoint with a view of Koh Noo Cat Island in the background has a mermaid sculpture sitting on a rock. It is a symbol of Songkhla Province. At Laem Samila there are small rocks extending into the sea. The beach has very fine white sand called "Sai Kaew". Surrounding the area is a shady garden, suitable for sitting and relaxing in the evening. Horseback riding along the beautiful beach is also available. The “Golden Mermaid” statue, an iconic symbol of Songkhla Province, is located at the tip of Laem Samila. Tourists always like to take photos with mermaids. The Golden Mermaid was created according to ancient Thai legends, which Khun Wichitmatra (Sanga Kanchanakphan) told: On fine days, mermaids sit on the beach and comb their hair with gold combs. One day a fisherman happened to be walking by. startle the mermaid He hurriedly fled into the sea, forgetting his golden comb. The fishermen saw this and kept the gold combs and always waited for the mermaid on the beach. But the mermaid never appeared again. The Golden Mermaid was created in 1966, in a sitting position combing hair which was cast in blackened bronze It was designed, sculpted and cast by Ajarn Chit Buabus with the cost of 60,000 baht at that time from the budget of the Songkhla Municipality.

Mermaids in Thailand It has been said since ancient times. Through many different stories, it is the mermaid that is popular. And the most talked about is Mermaids in Sunthorn Phu's literature, Phra Aphai Mani, where the mermaid (young mermaid) and the mermaid of the grandparents Successfully helped Phra Aphai Mani escape from the ocean butterfly. and the mermaid became the wife of Phra Aphai Mani. Until they had one son together,...

Things To Do @ Samila Beach (แหลมสมิหลา) ‍️️ which is about 2.5 km from the fresh market ie. Thalat Supsin or Thalat Sot Thetsaban

It’s now trending for the Thai locals to enjoy picnic style or food truck local Thai breakfast at Samila beach ️️ SiennyLovesDrawing loves & enjoyed her tasty local Thai breakfast here & learnt from her tour guide, Kuhn M to end her Thai breakfast with a hot Thai tea ~ Yes , the local Thai culture which similar to Chinese culture too

She has enjoyed local Thai breakfast here with friends ~ Thai Nasi Kerabu (It serves with purple rice, as compared to butterfly pea rice in Malaysia ), Thai purple chicken porridge & Thai egg pancake breakfast. She loves her cuppa of Macchiato All foods from the local Thai staffs & food trucks by the Samila beach ️️

It’s well known for its white sandy beach, shady pine groves & the golden mermaid statue ~ A prime spot of Songkhla’s symbol as momento Read more of her review at Golden Mermaid Statue TripAdvisor page ya ️

East of mermaid statue is another Ko Nu & Ko Maeo statue, a cat sitting on tail & looking at a mouse that holding an orb in its mouth. There is a plaque with a story behind these sculptures ie. A local fable about a dog, a cat & a mouse which all wished to escape from a ship to return back to dryland & their home at Songkhla

Visitors can opt for a pony ride on the sandy beach especially those with kids

Do enjoy the beach swing that overlooking the Ko Nu & Ko Maeo aka Cat ️ & Rat ️ islands & lovely comfy with the wind blowing

Before leaving the beach, do enjoy some shopping ️ for souvenirs eg. Beach pants, T-shirts, seashell souvenirs etc. Hmm…Do a slight bargain with the Thai sellers since this is a famous tourist spot. Ohh ya…Each of the stalls here with toilet & each entry for THB 5 or 10. If you’re their customers, toilet entry ya

Then, enjoyed a songthaew ride to the nearby Khao Kao Seng (เขาเก้าเส้ง) Viewpoint & a rock that the locals call it “Hua Nai Raeng”. Read more of her review at Kao Saen Rock TripAdvisor page ya ️

Visited Samila Beach during my trip to Songkhla and it was definitely one of the highlights of my journey. This beach is famous for its stunning coastal view, clean environment, and calm atmosphere, and I can now see why it’s one of the must-visit spots in Songkhla.

The environment is beautiful and very well maintained. The sand is soft and fairly clean, which makes it comfortable to walk barefoot along the shore. The sea breeze is refreshing, and the waves are gentle, creating a peaceful vibe that is perfect for a morning or evening stroll. It’s a great place to sit down, relax, and simply enjoy the scenery. If you are into photography, this spot is excellent — especially during sunrise or sunset when the light hits the water just right.

One of the iconic features of Samila Beach is, of course, the Golden Mermaid Statue. This statue is one of Songkhla’s most well-known landmarks, and many visitors come here to take pictures with it. There are also some other interesting statues and art installations along the beach, adding to its charm.

Even though this is a popular tourist spot, it doesn’t feel overly crowded most of the time, so you can still find a quiet corner to enjoy some peaceful moments. The entire area feels safe and family-friendly, and you can also find food stalls and vendors nearby if you want to grab a snack or a drink while enjoying the view.

Overall, I would rate Samila Beach 4 out of 5. It’s clean, well-kept, and provides a relaxing atmosphere that makes it worth visiting. Whether you’re here for a short walk, to take photos, or simply to enjoy the sea breeze, Samila Beach is a place that will leave you with good memories...
