The Tibidabo Funicular, known as the Cuca de Llum (Catalan for “Glowworm”), is a historic and essential part of the Tibidabo experience. It serves as both a practical and enchanting way to ascend to Barcelona’s iconic amusement park and the Sacred Heart Basilica at the summit of Tibidabo Mountain. Originally opened in 1901, it was one of the first funiculars in Spain, and its recent modernization has transformed it into a blend of history and innovation. The ride begins at the base station, where passengers board spacious and modern cabins designed to maximize views. As the funicular climbs the steep slope, passengers are treated to panoramic vistas of Barcelona, stretching from the bustling city streets to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. This gradual elevation creates a sense of excitement and anticipation, making the journey to Tibidabo as memorable as the destination itself. Nicknamed the “Glowworm” due to its sleek and luminous design, the funicular operates with environmentally friendly technology, reflecting Barcelona’s commitment to sustainable tourism. It’s an excellent way to connect the city with nature, as the route winds through lush greenery, offering a peaceful escape from the urban landscape below. The Tibidabo Funicular is more than just transportation—it’s an iconic piece of Barcelona’s history that has been enjoyed by generations of locals and tourists alike. Whether you’re visiting with kids, friends, or as a couple, the ride sets the tone for the magical adventure awaiting at the top. With its combination of convenience, stunning views, and historical significance, the Cuca de Llum truly embodies the charm and innovation that make Barcelona such a unique destination. Don’t miss this unforgettable ride during your visit to Tibidabo!

A great way to get a 360 panoramic view of Barcelona from one of the highest points. From Passige de Gracia you can get the V13 bus up to Tibidabo and get the connecting 365 bus up the second leg which takes you to the Funicular. You can also get the metro and a 8 return journey "travel pass" cost €2.50, which you can use over a period of 3 days. I paid €12 for return trip on the Funicular. When you reach the top there are a couple of fair ground type of rides which children or those young at heart would love too. The weather wasn't great when we went up but on a clear day, I can imagine awesome views. Well worth the trip.

This is the best way to get to the top where the amusement park and church is. However the station was hard to find. Walked past it twice needs better signage maybe... Ordering tickets was easy enough but man it's pricey for a short train trip up. I was told it takes 10 minutes up and 10 minutes down but it was def more like 5 minutes each way. When you get to the top the views and attractions are worth it I guess... The train was packed when it came down... but got on and found a seat. They have a really weird system where some doors only open from one side of the train.... so if some carriages are full you have to run all the way up the steps and around the other side to get in. They have a loo but they don't make it too clear when the train will leave so we didn't want to risk missing the train. On the way back down it was even more packed and had to run around each side trying to find carriage with space with a door accessible from that side. We had a problem where when it stopped at the bottom station the doors did not open on our carriage... we pressed all the buttons and nothing. With time passing and all the other carriages emptied we had no choice but to carefully climb over the high seat over into the next carriage and jump down. We were also in a hurry to catch a bus so had no choice... this was very bad service... we could have been stuck in there...

Price is alittle steep to ride the tram or funicular for a family of 5 but was worth it on our vacation. We did not go on rides in the amusement park since the tickets for that were an additional 28 euro per person but we did enjoy the church and the amazing view. Definitely an interesting way to see Barcelona, especially since at night you can see the cathedral lit up with the ferris wheel and we would wonder what was that up there on the mountain. We had to check it out and i'm glad we did! For more videos and pictures from the Funicular and our time visiting Tibidabo follow me on Instagram @ carissasart

It's so much fun to get to Tibidabo this way (although you can also get there by bus). This cable car has two stations, the lower one elevates above sea level at 221.6 meters, and the top station elevates at 500.2 meters. The horizontal length of the tracks is about 1km, and the ride takes only around four minutes to complete. One can enjoy a very nice, panoramic view of Barcelona, no matter where you're at inside the car. If you're also going to the Tibidabo amusement park, your entrance ticket includes the cable car ride.

State-of-the-art, high-capacity funicular. The staff does their very best to minimize queues and waiting times, but there is only so much they can do at such a popular place. Despite arriving 20 minutes before opening, the line for tickets was stretching out the door and down the block. Buying tickets online did save 30+ minutes of waiting because - although you still have to collect physical tickets on-site - there is a dedicated queue which is far shorter. The journey takes under 5 minutes.
