Very nice little museum, but there is no universe in which it is worth 13 Euros. But then, neither is a piece of pizza, but that's what you'll pay at an airport that would make American airports jealous of their skill at gouging. Nice, high quality pieces for the ancient collection. But several pieces were missing or not identified. One case was completely broke with the objects enshrouded in total darkness. While I liked the concept of the digital info cards and showing you where they came from, if there were more than two objects in a case, it took a long time to cycle through. But I guess that's a good way to get you to spend more time there and feel like you got your money's worth? Also, these gigantic airport halls are adequately air conditioned, but I guess it's too much to expect a few small rooms to get that. Museum shop was empty. Audio guide was not offered even though it is advertised as being included (another method of making you feel like you aren't getting cheated on the price, I guess). It generally felt unfinished and like a thinly veiled means of getting you to shell out an obscene entrance price with as little effort as possible on their part. If it were even 8 Euros, I probably wouldn't feel compelled to complain. But for 13 Euros for 5 small rooms, I expect either a lot more material or a lot better experience.
Tldr; nice, but insanely overpriced for what felt like a project they gave up on...
Read moreIf you are a history & art lover and you have enough transit time in Istanbul international airport, I highly recommend you spend time in this museum, It can take about 1 hour if you hear all of the audioguide discriptions (which are very informative and have many fun facts) or you can spend less than half an hour just enjoying every corner and object
I really enjoyed my time there, and the nice thing is the headset is on-ear with disposable cover (I really hate earbuds)
It has different areas ( old, roman, sultan, modern) There is an electronic game that you can choose a carpet and color it as you wish
At the end of the museum there are multiple (eye) figures which supposedly each one of them shows you an important location in Turkey, sadly most of them were out of service
The shop was literally abandoned and empty
Overall it was a pleasent visit, costed me about 7 euros......
Read moreI have been to this airport museum twice, which says something about it. It has many original pieces and covers the history of the region with a special focus on some of the prehistoric artifacts, but it also does great work with some of the Islamic art the hair shirt is memorable to me– – never fails to astound. It does seem a bit pricey, but if you want to spend an hour in a museum in an airport with really high quality exhibit, this is the place for you. Also, there is nobody there so you can have the place pretty much to yourself one suggestion if anybody from the museum is reading this – – they have a rotating display of four beautiful pieces that appear and disappear at 30 second intervals or so this is doing a disservice to the pieces, it would be much nicer to see each one...
