Ürgüp Hamam - Historical Turkish Bath — Attraction in Urgup

All good.

At first, I thought to leave the Turkish bath experience until I went back to Istanbul for more choices. But then, waking up early for hot air balloon and different tours in Cappadocia made me desperately want a spa.

Their website showed the price of different packages clearly. 60 euro for 60 mins, 80 euro for 80 mins and 120 euro for 120 mins. I opted for the 120 mins which included a traditional Turkish bath experience and a massage.

The manager replied to my WhatsApp inquiry quickly. They offered free transportation transfer. They sent a driver right in front of my hotel at goreme in 20mins. That really impressed me. It’s just a bit awkward when the manager asked if I’m okay with a male therapist. Of course I turned it down and preferred a female therapist. Also, the manager asked if I want to upgrade the massage with 20 extra euros. Indeed, I don’t think it’s necessary to pay extra as I’m good with the original package.

The therapist is from Bali and she did an amazing work. In the first session, she brought me to a steaming room. But to be honest, I could barely feel the steam. Had to check with them but they could not speak English much. And then, other 8 guests also came to the steaming room and that’s a bit crowded but never mind.

Next, the therapist did a body scrub and Turkish bubble foam massage (which is fun!) and applied a seaweed mask for me in a semi-private room as the room was just covered by a cloth curtain. My skin felt so smooth at this point. I saw some other guys receive the same treatment at the middle of the marbles.

After that, she did a 60-min full body aromatherapy massage for me. She did an amazing work as I felt like in Bali. I tried many massages when I travelled and some did not do massages with much strength. But She would help to massage the lymph all over the body from your leg to shoulders. Can feel the difference immediately when I touched my leg and felt much lighter.

Just one small minus thing is that would be better if she got all fingernails clipped. It’s slightly painful if it touched / scratched the skin.

After the treatment, the manager asked the driver to send me back to goreme bus terminal. I can care one thing less. Excellent service, really...

I recently visited this Turkish bath and had a somewhat disappointing experience. While the facility itself isn't bad, it's ok. I believe my experience could have been much better with improved operations.

I booked a spa package and specifically requested a particular type of massage before making the reservation. Unfortunately, I arrived late due to the driver having the wrong address, which was an honest error and being on holiday I didn't really care.

Upon arrival, I was assigned a female massage therapist. All the therapists I saw were Asian females, and while they were lovely, I would have appreciated being asked if I had a preference for a male or female therapist.

The steam room was another letdown. It didn't meet my expectations because there was an airbridge underneath the door, preventing the room from retaining steam effectively. It felt like corners were being cut in terms of maintenance and design. It may say not a big deal, but it is when you don't really get hot at all. Then someone entered the steam room with me while I was semi-naked, which is customary in a Turkish bath but can be definitely uncomfortable when they are a female.

Whilst I was being washed and soaped I saw one of the owners giving a tour to outside tourists while I was getting bathed. Again, I understand it's a shared area but it's sort of uncomfortable when you're literally pretty much naked with a wet towl partially over a certain areaa of your body and people are having a tour of the facility looking at you and you're looking at them.

The temperature in the spa room wasn't right, it was like that I'm not called enough to be shivering but not warm enough to be comfortable making it less than ideal for a soothing experience. Moreover, the massage itself did not meet my expectations. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I had asked for, which was disappointing.

Lastly, the noise levels were quite bothersome. From the beeping of a low battery smoke alarm to the sounds of cars outside and tourists discussing their holidays, it was difficult to relax.

I don't like to give negative reviews but this place has potential but needs significant improvements to meet the standards of a proper...

A unique (proper) Hamam experience! Myself, partner and a friend visited at end of August after reading the reviews of others here and were not disappointed! After messaging on WhatsApp we were provided with a time slot and information on our selected package - the basic 60' one. We were offered a lift from our hotel in Nar (included) and were given a time to meet the driver, who promptly arrived later in the afternoon. Nevertheless, due to traffic and some delay in the Hamam's previous client treatment, we were contacted by the manager who asked if he could delay us by 30' to which we agreed. We were in fact almost an hour late, however it did not matter much as we were on holiday, it was the end of the day and we were just ready to relax! We were welcomed and well received by the manager and staff and were offered an additional treatment free of charge for our trouble. The therapists were brilliant and so gentle and made us feel truly relaxed! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, so much that we booked again two days later as we were returning from a day of visits at the local monuments. What a way to end your day and prep for dinner and a great night sleep! This time around we were given a tour of the facility and explained the history of the building and the family that built it. I have to say it was one of the greatest highlights of our trip and I recommend it without hesitation! Tips: (1) if you are of a female anatomy, I would recommend putting on a bikini for more convenience. (2) they offer towels and cover up as well as slippers so you do not need to bring your own. There are lockers as well to store your items - would fit a standard 40x30x20 bag/ shoes and your clothes. (3) refreshments are offered so no worries if you forget your bottle. (4) do shower before your visit- respect the staff and yourself! (5) a payment in Euro or Dollars will be preferable and will give you better value in avoiding conversion rates and extra bank charges. (6) ask about the building's history- I promise you it is a fascinating story!
