I loved Whin park. We stopped there after visiting Inverness botanic gardens. We had lunch at one of the many picnic benches. It was so nice sitting next to the duck pond which was full of baby ducks, it was like "duck nursery" as there were no adult ducks around, just ducklings playing 🦆🦆. The children's play park looked so much fun, one of the best public kids play parks I've seen, lots to do for the wee ones. There are loads of slides, swings, roundabouts you cycle, things to climb/jump on, made me wish I was a kid again. There are no dogs allowed in Whin park which was nice as there was no chance of stepping in something nasty. There is a boating pond but it was closed when we were there. If you go through the park and out the other side it brings you out on the banks of the river Ness, there is a nice walk along the riverside (not a proper path though, just where people have made a path overtime). There are toilets and plenty of parking

We parked at River Ness opposite Bught Park and took the path along the Islands toward Whin Park. Its a lovely walk and if you have a good eye you will spot water birds and other little creatures camouflaged by their surroundings. Whin Park is great place for taking children to play and is open all year round. It has plenty of fab play areas and in summer the pond is well used with those taking a wee turn in one of the boats available for hire. I visited plenty as a child and took my own children when they were wee, and now they are grown up my husband and I still enjoy a walk around and feed the ducks. Plenty of picnic benches dotted around, toilets and good onsite parking. In the summer season there is a wee shop selling snacks and ice lollies. It's only a couple minutes walk from the Inverness Botanical Gardens which offers sit in refreshments or takeaway..coffee, water cake etc.

We used this as a family meet up point. The park is great for all ages but especially for kids. There is a superb play park, boating pond. My great nephew had an absolutely brilliant time in the play park and it is very well kitted out. We also rode the narrow guage train and I don't know who enjoyed it more, me or the kid! It really was superb. We had a picnic on one of the many picnic tables and also had a walk around the park. It's a bit out of way but using a sat nav in an unknown area took us straight to it. Definitely recommend.

Whin Park is a delightful and enchanting oasis, a true haven for families with young children. The moment you enter the park, you will be greeted by a sense of serenity and calmness that is unmatched by any other park in the area. The small train station is a true delight for children and adults alike, and it takes you on a scenic journey around the park, allowing you to appreciate its natural beauty from a different perspective.

The centrepiece of the park is undoubtedly the big pond, which is an absolute joy to behold. The water is clear and sparkling, and the surrounding foliage is lush and green, making it a great spot for picnics and family gatherings. You can hire a boat and take a leisurely cruise around the pond, admiring the wildlife that calls it home. Ducks and swans can often be seen swimming gracefully through the water, and children can spend hours feeding them or simply watching them glide by.

As you explore the park, you will come across several benches and tables, strategically placed around the lake, allowing you to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. These are great spots to relax and unwind, perhaps with a good book, a cup of tea or just to take in the beauty of the surroundings.

For the children, there are several play areas that provide endless hours of entertainment. There are kids' slides, wooden play buildings, and swings that allow children to unleash their energy and creativity. These areas are designed to challenge and stimulate children, encouraging them to explore, play and learn.

Overall, Whin Park is a true gem, a place where families can come together and create lasting memories. The stunning scenery, combined with the range of activities on offer, make it the perfect destination for a day out with the kids. Whether you're looking for a peaceful retreat or a fun-filled adventure, Whin Park has something for everyone. So why not come and discover this hidden gem...
