The catering is well organised but you don't go to a rugby match to buy a burger. The setting is quite beautiful and I attended a Friday night game so the vista was illuminated just magical. The problem is the actual "stadium". It is difficult to call this a stadium when you get there. We were concerned on a showery evening to see people in the pubs and around town in dry robes. There were so many they can't have all been swimming in the river??? Could they!! Actually no they couldn't they were experienced Bath rugby fans who presumably have been soaked attending matches. How can you get soaked, well easily actually as there is no roof at all on the stands running the length of one side of the pitch (east stand where we were) and behind the goal to our right. £97 we paid which is and outrage (£59 for seats behind the goal). The other issue from the east stand experience anyway, are the very narrow exit entry points. How you get out in an emergency god knows it was hard enough at half time where you have to choose between beer or toilet or if you choose both miss 10 minutes, or more, of the restart partly because the stewards won't let you in untill there is a break in play. At the end of the game where 14000 were leaving together it took 20 minutes before we started shuffling towards the exit. Bath needs a new Roman Colosseum to host this great clubs spectacles the...
Read moreWe had the chance to watch a Six Nations U20 rugby match at The Recreation Ground in Bath, and it was an amazing experience! The setting is absolutely stunning, with the stadium located right in the heart of Bath, surrounded by beautiful historic architecture. The rugby atmosphere was fantastic, with passionate fans and a great energy throughout the match. Watching high-level young talent compete made it even more exciting! While The Rec isn’t the most modern stadium, its charm and unique location more than make up for it. The view from the stands is excellent, and you feel really close to the action. The facilities were well-organized, with decent food and drink options available. One of the best things about The Rec is its central location. It’s just a short walk from Bath’s city centre, making it easily accessible by foot or public transport. Being able to enjoy the match and then explore Bath afterwards is...
Read moreIt's unusual to find a sports venue so centrally located in a city, hence it is very accessible. Although it has been around forever, its "temporary" nature is quite apparent. You are very exposed to the elements sitting in the East stand, leg room is lacking and it takes an absolute age to get out of the stands at the end of the match. That doesn't appear to deter the crowds though and the place was almost full to capacity. TV screens and scoreboards need to be more visible.
The bars are well organised with pints already pre-poured and plenty of staff.
Having paid £15 for a seat with a similar view at the Gtech only the prior weekend, £77 pp seems expensive. However, that's supply and demand for you, the Gtech was half empty and the Rec...
