During a short break in Mosely we were interested to visit some local parks and gardens. After the extreme disappointment at finding mosely Gardens shut to the public we stopped by Martineau gardens, just out of curiosity (as we knew very little about it) where we ended up spending one of the most tranquil and relaxing hours imaginable.

These small gardens, set against some woodlands, are run by volunteers, who greeted us with a smile and hello, offered us hot drinks and supplied us with information and maps. The gardens are arranged into different small sections, some areas designed for growing plants and vegetables, some for tranquility and relaxation. There is also a small children's play area. The volunteers were so kind and informative and supplied lots of fascinating information about the origin of the gardens.

We highly recommend stopping by if you find the time and are looking for some solace and relaxation in your day. Entry is free but you can also donate as much as you are able to. Thank you to everyone we met and for all the hard work done by the volunteers that makes this such a...

I have been meaning to visit for years. 15/12/23 a good opportunity as my friend Lisa and I were in the area.

We were greeted by two lovely friendly volunteers who offered us a hot drink. They also told us about a grey cat who frequents the area.

Although this time of year growth is limited it was clear to see the extensive work/preparation for spring has taken place.

We took a gentle walk around. (I heard a Woodpecker) and saw other birds. We saw a stunning grey cat with gorgeous eyes (quite evasive that day).

Another friendly lady approached us. We had interesting conversation about the project and other aspects of gardening/allotments, projects and school visits. Very interesting indeed.

Outcome - In a world whereby social interaction appears to be limited our experience was refreshing in many ways.

Whatever the time of the year, our visit was a welcome break in a wonderful and much cared for oasis in a very busy city.

As Arnie said "I'll be back"!

Very well done...

🌿✨ If you're looking for a family-friendly spot to visit, I can highly recommend Martineau Gardens. It's not only a beautiful, peaceful place to enjoy nature, but it also has a real heart for the community. 🌼

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing how amazing the staff are as they have taken on one of my students as a volunteer there. They’ve been incredibly supportive and welcoming, helping him develop valuable skills and giving him a real sense of purpose. It’s clear that Martineau Gardens genuinely cares about its volunteers and the people they serve.

Whether you’re bringing the kids or grandkids, or just want to spend some time in a lovely space, Martineau Gardens is definitely worth a visit. It’s a true local gem! 💚

A brilliant FREE ENTRY community garden! They’d always had a cool pirate ship there but now it’s been very much updated and little man loved it! They have some chalkboard walls inside the ship where children are free to write and draw whatever they wish. There’s also a little sandpit in it too. There are 5/6 picnic tables by it aswell so great for taking a picnic. They have a couple of trails on including a stick man trail where you can pick up an optional activity pack for a £2.50 donation, which then goes back into the maintenance each of the gardens. 🌳 Free entry 🌳 Open Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm 🌳 Toilet facilities open 🌳 Small free car park

Free entry community garden! A 2.5 acres of beautiful landscape to explore for the whole family. A wildlife oasis and a haven of tranquility. Twisting paths meander past woodland, orchard, ponds, formal garden, an earth oven, a shipwreck children’s play area and more. They grow lots of vegetables and fruits, helped by volunteers. Great day out with the kids where they can learn how different veggies and fruits are grown. Very kind volunteers who are there to help you with all your needs. Free parking and public toilets onsite.

Lovely place to visit. We had a great time looking around at all of the different plants, trees, fruits and vegetables. Lots of very friendly staff and volunteers. My daughters attended one of the childrens events (plant professors) and had lots of fun whilst learning a lot - and getting to taste some plants! There was a lovely space for the children to play, with a sand pit and we were able to have a picnic there too. We will definitely be going back!
