Free museum to visit. Great little place. I spent two hours here and was engrossed throughout. I parked out on the road, but as you enter the gates, there is room to park on the museum's own approach road, with an additional car park at the back of the museum too. There are also four disabled parking bays here. This is a well put together museum with excellent displays and wide variety of assorted artefacts, something of interest for everyone. There is an excellent row of terraced houses which you can go into, but not into the rooms themselves. Plenty of information boards. Carriage shed with vehicles such as the gypsy vardo; stables; the Victorian Mill Manor/Moorside House. You can go into this building too and it's worth seeing as it's full of authentic Victoriana. The old tramlines are still in situ outside too. There's a shop, reception and toilets, but no café. The reception area sells snacks and there is a seating area with a drinks vending machine. Tram shed; working steam engines and water wheel; printing room; transport room with motorbikes (rah rahhh! Happy face!) and also a grand selection of vintage Jowett motorcars. In the upstairs galleries there are the spinning and weaving machines, though they were not operating on the day I visited, which was a shame. They don't always have enough staff, and though I was up there at the time stated, after half an hour, still no working display. Great to see though and it is all really well displayed. Most informative. Helpful and very friendly staff. The print room was also fascinating, as I used to work at a local newspaper works. A grand trip and thoroughly recommended. Plenty of opportunities abounding to donate to this worthwhile museum, in the many deposit points around the exhibits. Well done, Bradford,...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing day out today at #bradfordindustrialmuseum . FREE entry ( donations welcome). It is very child and SEN friendly. Machines run at intervals throughout the day with ear defenders provided if needed. Relaxation room with picnic tables, sofas, book's and children's toys. Plus a tea and coffee machine at only £1 a drink ( take cash) . They had several children's trails to take part in, one for Yorkshire day, a sunflower trails, find the kids tv characters, and of course, the 11 stuffed rats hidden throughout the galleries in the Mill. Jackson absolutely LOVED hunting for them. They had at least one interactive station for the kids in each room, including a printing press, a train set, a wooden bus to drive, plus much more. It was a very chill.amd steady day, not busy at all, even Tee-Jay enjoyed it as he didn't have the anxiety of other guests. We almost had the place to ourselves! It was so lovely to see the Tee take Jackson under his wing, play with him , show him around, and help him look for all the items on the trails. On top of all that, obviously there were all the galleries to look around. A great insight into history. A fave of mine was the back to back houses. The gift shop was also reasonably priced , I got the kids a little something each. Also want to mention the staff and volunteers who were so friendly and helpful. They definitely added to the experience. A little hidden gem, and we will definitely be going back!

Read moreStorm Floris got me to reschedule my outdoor plans. So I needed an urgent rearrangement and this museum was it.
At 11:45am the husband is asking, "how long will you be as I need to be somewhere for 1:15pm." Response : "Ohhh! An hour and a half. Can't be much more that can it?" (I'm thinking the 4 year old would probably get bored)
So off we went. Soon as we walked in, the 4 year old activity started. And from time to time there was an activity for a very eager little child whilst the elder two (12 and 13 respectively) keenly looked, wondering how people managed in those days.
The husband went and came back at 2:30pm and we still hadn't finished. We did get a pit stop from the little gift shop. A standard coffee, sandwich/baguette and a seabrook crisp for £5 which was pretty decent.
The staff were very helpful. The card machine wasn't working so he patiently waited for me to try several times until he cancelled the transaction and started again. (i didn't catch his name I'm so sorry)
The 4 year old still wanted to play/read books in the various corners. I was surprised at how much we enjoyed ourselves and time flew by. We could have spent a little longer. It did get a bit busy during the afternoon so I'm glad we started early.
Mind you my children love historical artefacts and so do l. If your children don't enjoy that sort of thing, it's still good enough to try as it's all FREE! It may just change their mind.
There's so much to see over two floors. Thank you for a...
