Cathedral of St Mary & St Helen — Attraction in Brentwood

Lovely Cathedral to either attend Mass or just go for a couple of hours solitude. My favourite spot in there is where the old church used to be and now the tabernacle is.

Surprisingly it is fairly difficult to get into as a full time wheelchair user. The door to be unbolted at the back is very high and you have to wait for someone else to unbolt for you if the front doors are closed (not a problem if going in for a "planned" Mass or meeting).

The Reconcilliation rooms are impossible to get into as the fixed congregation chairs are too close to them. Fortunately the priests will come out to you and hear your confession somewhere in the Cathedral in private, BUT it would be nice to have that option of going into the reconcilliation rooms also.

The disabled rest rooms are exceptionally good.

I still love this place even with its "obstacles", I guess its an inbuilt...

It’s an absolute blessing to have the cathedral in Brentwood. I love this place and so happy to have been a part of the community. I don’t think enough people realise this gem at the heart of the town. From the warm and welcoming community, the wonderful priests and deacons, and world class choir. Beautiful services, homilies, a place for prayer, reverence and meeting with God in holiness. Easter and Christmas especially are wonderful. Not enough words, I highly recommend everyone to go here and experience the place. God bless all the people who make it great and may it long continue to be a shining beacons of Jesus presence and mission...

My first visit, an interesting building. Didn’t feel overly church-like. Choir, although amazing, were enclosed in a box. The piano frequently drowned them out! Choose a location wisely to make the most of the acoustics. If coming by train, the hill up to the Cathedral is very steep. Pushing a wheelchair was more than a month at the gym!
