Dear Sir/Madam With reference to meals at The Artichoke Toby Carvery Shenfield Common Brentwood Essex on 29/7/2018 at 17.45 hrs On this occasion which was a birthday meal for my self with members of my family this restaurant fell short of the standards that you apply. 1) I made a reservation for 17.45 on Sunday 29/7/2018 at 14.00pm. The member of staff who first saw us could not find this reservation on the computer and proceeded to tell me that I couldn't have made a reservation she saw the look on my face and then found the booking. 2) When we went to the carvery there was only one meat which was the beef. (There was small chicken breasts) There was no Pork, Turkey or gammon left. We were NOT told when we were seated there was no meat but I heard a member of staff talking to her colleague there is hardly enough food for this session 3) The Beef that was the only meat was extremely Rare. There was Blood coming it when it was cut. This put me off from eating it. 4) When we tried to order desserts the ones we would have liked were not available. This is not the first time this situation has occurred. 5) A sign went up to say no meat as we left why wasn't we told before hand that there was no meat? Whilst we appreciate that Sunday evening is a busy period the fact that the meat had run out by 6pm is rather inexcusable. Also I had printed out the voucher you had sent me for £10 but because we had not had a main meal this could not be used and couldn't get my stamp which I am collecting. I can not use the voucher as a drink got knocked over and unable to reprint this voucher. I was still to use my free drink for registering and again was told as this was a Sunday and I had not had a main meal I couldn't have it. On this occasion the Carvery experience was not what we had experienced in the past especially as this is one of my favourite eating places The carvery area was closed from 7pm on this evening. To say we were disappointed was an understatement. Not what we expected from Toby Carvery's.

Our server was very sweet. We were seated at a nice small table fairly near the carvery. As part of the Carvery, the Turkey and the Pork were both very tender and moist. I chose the Turkey as the Gammon being served from the remenent of the joint looked extremely dry. The vegetables were just passable, the peas unfortunately were over dry, the cauliflower undercooked and the vegetarian gravy very lumpy and uninspiring. The sliced potato and the sweet potatoes creamed dish however was really excellent, I passed my compliments to be relayed to the chef. Fortunately, there was an icing on the cake. Undoubtedly the tastiest part of the Meal was the dessert. This was the Hot chocolate browny cake with thick custard, served piping hot. This was accompanied my an additional scoop of Vanilla Icecream which we requested. Thank you to our server for a excellent services and the great dessert, photo attached.

A very disappointing experience at what is apparently the first Toby carvery. Almost an hour wait, which in itself isn't a problem as its Sunday and we didn't have a reservation. However things went downhill from there. We were called through to the table which hadn't been laid and was still dirty. Easily sorted though, and then to the food. The Yorkshire puddings were soft, almost soggy. The mash was dry and brittle, at first I thought it was cauliflower. And the peas and carrots had clearly seen better days. Now we'd been waiting an hour (totally our fault) so I thought I'd get some gravy and make the best of a bad situation. Now normally the gravy is nice, thick and tasteful. This gravy had the consistency of water and didn't really taste of anything. Overall from what should be the best Toby carvery (over 10,000,000 carvery sold I believe it said) I had the worst experience to date.

If I could give less then 1 star then I would. We ordered for collection on Sunday evening once we got the order home and opened it we discovered items were missing & the actual portion of roast was shocking. There was a huge mountain of mash piled on top of scraps of meat which was clearly done on purpose so you couldn’t see how little meat you were getting. We called the restaurant and told them that we were missing the 2 desserts and the side of pigs in blankets & that the meal received was below satisfactory and not what we expected to receive. The first manager Rebecca at first offered a refund for the missing items and when I asked for a full refund she advised they would need to see the order. As we live 15 minutes away we offered to send a picture of the order which they accepted. Once I had sent evidence of the meal I called back and the other manager -Gemma- said the picture of the meal was ‘unacceptable’ and she would show the kitchen staff. Rebecca proceeded to start the refund by taking my card details but half way through the second manager came back and proceeded to have a conversation whilst I wasn’t placed on hold. I could over hear the conversation and she was saying that the kitchen staff were adamant they packed the full order and that they sent the meal better than what was shown in the picture. She said ‘they must of taken items out’ & ‘we can rewatch the cctv’ which sounded very accusatory! they then refused to process a refund at all. We said we will bring the order back which we did. Upon return to the restaurant Gemara was extremely confrontational and did nothing to try and resolve the issue, she interrupted us every time we tried to explain what had happened which led to all parties getting extremely irate. They advised they would rewatch the cctv and come back to us. This was done and we was told the correct amount of boxes we’re placed in our order which is absurd as if we went out of our way to get a free slice of chocolate cake…but they still offered us a refund? Gemma who is the manager was appalling at resolving what should of been an easy issue to deal with and I am disgusted at how we...

We were at your restaurant yesterday early evening around 7pm we were seated at a table for 2 against the wall which was wobbly, stained and propt up with a folded menu. I was walking with a stick but was still required to walk back to bar to choose which flavoured gin I would like as waitress couldn't remember them but was not allowed to take it from bar, another waiter returned with drinks a while later during which time 2 other members of staff asked us if we needed drinks or to order non of which was wearing masks. We chose the carvery and again no member of staff was wearing masks not even the chef who had a bushy beard and hair flopping all over place very unhygienic. While serving the thinnest single slice of meat a piece of fatty beef was cut and dropped onto counter and quickly picked up and served onto my husband's plate. I also witnessed the server drop cauliflower and potatoes for customers in front of me and placed them back on their plate, no one was wearing gloves or masks at all. Our roast potatoes were very hard and dry and while cutting into the last potato my husband found it was black and powdery inside which put him off having anything else (ie desert). The potato slices were undercooked and raw, the meal was slapped onto plate with no presentation and looked like leftover school dinners, everything else was overcooked and tasteless and even heard other customers say same. I did complain to waiter who took plates and said we could go and choose more veg which we declined, considering there were customers after us this should not of been the situation. All in all we were extremely disappointed with whole experience dispite visiting Toby Carvery on past occasions the standard has obviously dropped so we will not be recommending your carvery to others. This was £30 unwisely spent. We should of realised when seeing stacked furniture clearly on view from outside window. Also dispite using a stick when asked where toilets were I was directed to go up and down several flights of stairs which was difficult . So we will not be returning to the ...
