The museum should be your first stop if/when you visit Whitstable. You will be able to appreciate everything you'll see in town after seeing all that this place has to show you: the history of the harbour, the shipbuilding, the Invictus, the Oyster, deep-sea diving, regatta, the community and some of its celebrity residents who have passed away. And to top it off, the museum has staff who are happy to provide answers to any questions you might have.

There is so much to see in this museum. The main centre piece is Stephensons Invicta engine. This stood on a plinth in Canterbury for 70 years. I always wondered where it went and here it is. Lots of interesting facts around the museum. Peter Cushing has many personal posesions in here to view with a lot of history of Whitstable town itself.

I really enjoyed this little museum. Lots of nuggets of local information which made our stay in whitstable more interesting... Maunsell forts, Invicta and the floods. Learnt about the oyster industry and the town during the war. Even a bit about Peter Cushing. Only open odd times though.

The pride in their local community shone through in everything that the members of staff did. They gave us a warm welcome, suggested items we would probably interested in, after ascertaining that we came from the North East of England and that there were strong cultural and historical links between us, and they were more than happy to answer various questions that we had and they clearly loved being part of the museum. They have an expansive range of displays for the local area and it's history including one of the oldest stream trains in the country. This is an active museum with various restoration...

Absolutely wonderful museum Main visit was to see the Peter Cushing exhibition and never disappointed,Peter Banbury Trustee was so informative with reference to Peter Cushing and spent time explaining how the museum is looking to expand, every member of staff in the museum when passing us had time to talk and that really was the icing on the cake, the displays are all outstanding. We are planning a return visit later in the year with some Donations to the Peter Cushing displays. We would highly recommend a visit Thank you Peter and the Staff We appreciated your time and kindness. Brian...

All 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed our visit yesterday, thanks in no small part to the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. The draw was the Stephenson's steam engine Invicta, where Peter B was excellent at explaining, to the children, the mechanics and physics involved whilst gentle seeing what they already knew of these things. Thank you Peter for the time you spent with us. We also enjoyed the steam car and bicycle sections- once more ably explained by Peter. Totally worthwhile visiting and hoping that more find this gem in Whitstable. Huge thanks from...
