Had a fantastic time here yesterday with my son (2YO), there's a lovely kids play area with plenty to do for under 5's and swings for the older kids + a climbing frame which would suit under 10's too. There's also a nice shallow stream with access down to the river bank, and lots of kids were in there with nets and bare feet cooling off and trying to catch some minnows. Definitely going to give that a go when I next come back with my 4YO as well. Didn't explore the whole park, but seems to go on forever with nicely maintained massive expanses of green fields, toilets and a tennis court which is free (when you've registered online and turn up for the hosted sessions - I believe). There's also a shop nearby selling ice-creams, usual food supplied, alcohol and fishing nets, and a nice looking pub just over the road, should you need to have some hot food afterwards. Very pleased with the whole experience and I will definitely be coming...
Read moreI have lived near Chelmsford most of my 60 years including working locally for the past 15 years and never visited this gem of an oasis.
The park is just out of town but is linked to the town centre with foot and cycle paths with distance and direction signs and lighting.
There are formal floral gardens, tennis courts and a bowling green, all maintained to a good standard with lots of seating dotted around. There is parking at both ends of the park and refreshments near the 'foot golf' yes foot! I also saw someone with a golf club, but not sure if this was his own or public.
There is a children's playground which on the hot school holiday day I visited was full of excited children and parents, some with picnics.
To summarise, this is a green oasis well looked after, with one exception, the public toilets. These need some money spent on them and regular inspections, or at the very least, free issue...
Read moreLovely park that stretches from the edges of Writtle/Rainsford Road through to the Town Centre via Central Park which joins up with Admirals Park.
The park has lovely well-kept flower bed and trees particularly around Tower Gardens, a play-area for kids, toilets (near Tower Gardens) and lots of different areas to walk or have picnics.
Plenty of benches in the park to sit and full of people during the day/early evening so feels safe during daylight. Lots of dog-walkers and people heading into town and back.
It also has a bowling green near the entrance by St Fabians Drive as well as tennis courts.
Further into the park (which is then central park) nearer the town and by the viaduct there is a café near the duck pond as well as another play area and more...
