There are differing walks available. In differing levels of physical difficulty. After my car has been scrapped, I am adjusting to a different way of moving around. As part of this I have walking to this park. Recently, I slipped on the Birkacre road hill. Even with walking boots. The leafs, rain, lack of grit on some areas of tarmac and the slope contributed to this fall. Please consider another walking route to leave or visit this park. My favourite route in this park is one which ends in a waterfall and when it's so full it's really loud! There are bodies of water open to anglers. It's required to buy a licence to fish here. It's available in a comprehensive fishing supplies shop in Coppull, Coppull Anglers, close by the Morris bakery. Back here in the park, the lodge at around August 2023, has suffered a breach in its embankments and lost a huge amount of it's water. It's been low until around new year 2024. If, after your walks, your peckish, you can find a cafe at which you can buy nice differing cakes, drinks and basic hot meals and ice creams. These meals have been made more substantial and wider choice over time. My treat here is a scone and jam with a tea. It's £3 cheaper than the equivalent in the Astley Park Ambio cafe. There is a loo too. There is a big car park for free parking. This free parking is under review to charge for parking. For a few hours 3 to 4 will stay free. A full day might be £3. Close by this parking is a large child's play park with swings, slides, sandpits, and tunnels by the bigger of the two lodges. Every year, during the warmer weather, there are warnings given about not swimming in the lodge lake. This advice is also ignored when the lodge is frozen over. And sadly, every year this advice is ignored and...
Read moreA beautiful park, easily accessible with parking. It has wonderful little trails to follow, a lake, water features and a great little cafe that has the best hot chocolate, cakes and ice- cream with about 15 wonderful flavours to choose from.
Definitely well worth a visit to the nature reserve, multiple little lakes- one with lodges for fishing. The weir is very impressive, and has an area there to stand for a while and listen to the water rushing by. All looks very pretty & clean. There are some hides for birdwatching/squirrels & there is a little playground too.
Dogs are allowed on a lead but we saw a few that weren't but were very well trained. Many dog-wakers here as there are streams alongside to play in and the river flows through the outer edge but you need to be very cautious there and follow the signs. There are bridges over the waterways where children play 'pooh sticks', it's all very beautiful in every season.
There are many birds to be seen, notably the swans and cygnets always on the big lake, there's often the lapwing and dipper near the weir, kingfishers & herons can be seen along the river sometimes. There are the Canadian Geese there often and other beautiful birds that I don't know the name of but there's always someone there that will know and be happy to chat about them. I'm told there's a vulture too and the deer can be seen early morning at the top end of the reserve. There's always plenty of wildlife to spot. I'm lucky it's so close to home so always go there...
Read moreBrilliant place to have a walk although... The 'well signposted routes' is a bit of a lie. (A lot of a lie) There's barely any signposts, there's a few yellow/green arrows dotted about, but no red or blue route directions, we couldn't even find some of the landmarks mentioned on the maps on the council website. The 'Historical woodland' for example... Would it be too difficult to have a wood post with an arrow saying 'historical woodland ' on it so people knew they were in the right place?
It's February, so I expected it to be a bit muddy... And it definitely was. Liquid mud several inches deep on some paths 😂
We ended up coming out opposite the golf course, no idea which way was witch due to no proper signage, and long story short, ended up completely off route on the B5252 with a load of Subaru's. Good walk though, ended up covering 5.6 mike's instead of the 4.5 blue route we intended.
Parking ample and there's a cafe,...
