Butlins Family Half Term Break - Platinum Caravan 21st-25th October 2024 First time back at Butlin’s since I was 10 years old (27 years ago) and wanted to share some of the magical memories and stories I had with my kids but also to make magical ones with them for them to share with their kids in the future!!! fair to say it’s changed a lot. Check in was fast and actually got our keys to Sandhills 307 a hour early. Upon arriving at the caravan we found it clean and couldn’t complain about anything. Our first night there was a Welcome show at pavilion. I couldn’t believe the volume of people crammed into the skyline pavilion. Not enough seats, 1 person serving at the bar… The dance floor was absolutely rammed… and not just with kids… so many adults on stage which made you feel on edge that you couldn’t see your kids with people not having care in the world if they stood in front of you and should’ve been something to stop that volume of people crammed into such a tiny space IT WAS CARNAGE!!! Without trying to sound boring it was a massive healthy and safety risk and it felt dangerous!!! Regarding the “Welcome Show”… we thought it was shocking felt like such a massive build up for nothing… wasn’t a show just someone on stage promising something big and it was an anti climax. Wasn’t the best start but we didn’t get down hearted… we booked the masked singer show!!! ABBA, Jack & the beanstalk show, 360 show and Matricks… in-fact every show we went to see we were very impressed with!!! It did feel like you were going from place to place all the time. The Reds building and evening entertainment in the evening we found very enjoyable!!! The red coats are very entertaining!! And highly recommend going to there every night… it’s entertaining for both kids and adults!! Party dances, shows, crazy bingo!!! We loved it in there. THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE IN THE EVENING!!! We ate at the American diner, Firehouse… and safe to say we were very disappointed with the service but couldn’t help but notice how under staffed they were, we felt the food not to be the best.. but at all bars and restaurants we thought the drinks prices were very reasonable!!! But we noticed most bars and restaurants seem to be on skeleton staff!! We took the kids to pottery painting which they enjoyed, hired out the quad pedal bikes which was enjoyable, spent a lot of time in the arcade’s, fun fair. As most holidays we came here mainly for the kids!!! And pretty sure they really enjoyed themselves!!!! The sky park is really good!! VIP wrist bands to get into shows early (we had them) it felt like you were always racing to try and get a seat… not a fan feels like your in a rat race and when I come on holiday I want to get away from that as life at home is busy!! We were really annoyed by the early check-in and late check out offers… we tried to book either and got no where with it… couldn’t do any of it.. and then we didn’t realise about the all inclusive drinks package… as soon as we had a e-mail about it my wife tried to do it and we couldn’t… why send us e-mails and literally straight away as soon as we got the e-mail… we tried to book it and couldn’t At first with the volume of people we thought it’s carnage and the kids shows in the sky pavilion stage are absolutely carnage and too busy… should be only kids on the dance floor and not adults as we thought it was dangerous and so did a lot of people we spoke to!! Big shout out to the red coats!!! They do great work!!! They really do put a massive effort to make sure you enjoy yourself!!! Keep the good work Main points: The Good: Great shows!!! Great Red Coats!!! Reasonable Prices drinks Lots of Entertainment for kids Generally Cleaned site Caravan Clean The Bad: -A lot of places need an update… look a bit run down -Food in restaurants not great. -The advertise Early Check-in, Late Check out, all inclusive packages but couldn’t book any!!! -A lot of the Toilets are disgusting around site. Need cleaning more regular!! -Most restaurants under staffed which makes way for bad service!

Me my son and partner went in 2024 it was our first time at Butlins Skegness we went for Tots week to go see Justin Fletcher and it was a great 3 days of fun. Lots of things to see from Peppa Pig Circus, to The Animal Guys Dinosaurs and a few other things, so we booked again for 2025 and it was a disaster. Upon arrival the road leading round was full of pots holes it was a joke, When You're son is disabled in his wheelchair in the van and bouncing all over the place it's not good for him at all. The room we were given was next to the one we had last year which was a shame because that room was far better than the one we got this year they are adapted apartments. Well I say adapted just had wider doors and a wet room nothing else in fact none of the rooms have anything else no hoists, no decent beds or anything like that, the beds were back breaking and too soft you think you may fall out at some point This was one of our issues last year but had to overcome it, upon arrival in Echo Point Room 16 it wasn't even cleaned properly. It had what we think was duck poo stains in the carpets, left over gummies sweets under the desk. The bathroom was disgusting it stunk of bleach, it had mould in the walls near the shower, which the shower head was disgusting as well hadn't been changed in a while we didn't use it at all had to do basic hand and face washes because we refused to use it The toaster was broken because the cable had been burned and was clearly never reported and was dangerous to use, the kettle was full of limescale, cobwebs were on the tops of the walls. The cupboards tops hadn't been cleaned in months above the wardrobe in one room it was thick dust. One light was broken in the living room which made one half dark the freezer was full of yellow ice and bits They sent a manager who came with I think a cleaner and she gave us a new toaster and a new kettle, she reported the light has high priority they took 4hrs to come fix what was a bulb not installed correctly. They sent out a cleaner with a carpet cleaner and to clean out the freezer we had to leave while this was happening. So recap we paid for early check in and yet we had to do all the above and leave while it was getting cleaned which was supposed to have been done before we arrived. When we did come back we had to call again because there were still stains in the carpets. The front door clearly had been booted in at one point the bottom lock frame was broken off, the door handle was loose, the lock was a pain to actually lock. We rang to complain about paying for early check in and how we had to get all the above sorted they refunded us but with onsite credit which was a joke. The entire site barely has no selection to eat Papa John's stops taken takeaway orders after 8pm hundred of people on site and they stop taking takeaway orders. The fish and chip shop is expensive and taste like crap, Costa shuts at 6pm, burger king is decent but really expensive about £25+ for 2 meals. Some of the restaurants are closed on some days or close at 8pm, the small Nisa shop closer to the fairground shuts at 6pm so people at that side have to walk all the way to main tent to go to the Nisa shop inside. The experience this year was a joke and I won't be going again The rooms especially the adapted rooms need some serious investment. New paint and carpets and the bathrooms need replacement adapted rooms shouldn't be let out to people who don't need them at all. Oh I also forgot to mention that our room had ants inside because in the main bedroom it had any power on the edge of the carpet and outside. The oven had instructions that were for a completely different oven we had to find a manual ourselves on how to work but then it would burn your food, opening the door set off the smoke alarm off. We hated the experience this year and absolutely hated it the red coats this year weren't anywhere near as good as last year. The only thing that was brilliant was Mister Maker, Animal Guys, Justin Fletcher that was it everything else was awful.

Date of visit 16-20 June - Headland Dive 105. Well where do I start..... Well lets start off with the horrendous state of the roadway around this site, its full of potholes some are that deep you could see a mobility scooter whiz round inside emulating the wall of death. The pathways are equally as bad and several young kids went flying outside our apartment. So we managed to get from the pothole riddled car park with the wheeled suitcases only flipping over twice (result) On walking up those golden steps to our cell, the instant odour of regret hit you when opening the door. On entering the room there was a watered down stale/fusty odour similar to that of the hallway. The cell itself was of a reasonable size and certainly comfortable enough for 4 people, however it was tatty/tired and not very clean. In fact I don't think it had actually been cleaned. So onto the skanky bit:- The Bedroom - If you brushed a wet hand over the carpet it clumped with wads of hair/fluff and god knows what else. All the skirting boards and surfaces had a layer of dust, the best was the top of the wardrobe, that thick I thought insulate Britain had been in. There was also what looked like a whole false nail and a blue lid under the bed but in sight, the sides of the dressing table had dead insects, thick dust and plastic tags there. The wardrobe had most of the vinyl either loose or just cut off, I dare not look under the bed sheets !!! The Kitchen - This was equally as vile, the cooker was just rancid with thick furry/greasy detritus on the top edge and some greasy/stained grunge at the bottom of the door, the symbols were hardly readable on the controls and that certainly WASN’T through cleaning !!! The small fridge/freezer had the familiar thick coating of sticky dust and had probably not seen a cloth in months, the floor either side was equally as skanky and probably had never seen a mop. The table & chairs looked very worn out with chips and blobs ox extraneous matter adhered to it, the worktops were just the same. The hot water just dribbled out of the tap like it had literally just given up with life. The Lounge Area - Again the carpet was screaming out to its friend the hoover as they had not seen each other in weeks, the sofa looked relatively new and was reasonably comfortable, as standard at least 1 edge of the coffee table had the veneer missing to give it that “apocalypse finish” There was also a nice selection of cigarette butts inside the window frame and an equally nice selection strewn all over the grass. The Bathroom - Well this was just absolutely minging, nice skid mark brushed scale in the pan plus a wonky seat, toilet roll that you had to quadruple up or fear a finger penetration due to the wafer thin cheapness. The hot water from the sink was literally at scalding point so utmost care was needed to keep the skin on your fingers. So the shower, well considering this is a device that is used to wash with you felt dirtier stepping out of it than you did stepping into it. The riser rail was broken and bodged together (FFS they are literally £6 new) the shower head kept slipping down as the grip mechanism was broken plus the shower was feeble and I’m confident I could have pi$$ed more than what came out of the shower head. Saying that, it was so scaled up that water went in every direction other than that where you were standing. The door was broken and the disgusting grunge at the bottom was just utterly disgusting. The site in certain parts has that look about it that its simply just given up, most of the accommodation blocks looked grotty as did the buildings with flaking paint, damage and rotting wood on most of them. We didn't eat at any of the food places as most of the reviews were pretty lousy, we I'd been to Butlins twice prior to this and the level of decay seen since then is very saddening as it has so much potential to be a superb venue. FFS get some investment into the accommodation, its filthy and outdated.

Well I say adapted just had wider doors and a wet room nothing else in fact none of the rooms have anything else no hoists, no decent beds or anything like that, the beds were back breaking and too soft you think you may fall out at some point

This was one of our issues last year but had to overcome it, upon arrival in Echo Point Room 16 it wasn't even cleaned properly. It had what we think was duck poo stains in the carpets, left over gummies sweets under the desk. The bathroom was disgusting it stunk of bleach, it had mould in the walls near the shower, which the shower head was disgusting as well hadn't been changed in a while we didn't use it at all had to do basic hand and face washes because we refused to use it

The toaster was broken because the cable had been burned and was clearly never reported and was dangerous to use, the kettle was full of limescale, cobwebs were on the tops of the walls. The cupboards tops hadn't been cleaned in months above the wardrobe in one room it was thick dust. One light was broken in the living room which made one half dark the freezer was full of yellow ice and bits

They sent a manager who came with I think a cleaner and she gave us a new toaster and a new kettle, she reported the light has high priority they took 4hrs to come fix what was a bulb not installed correctly.

The only thing that was brilliant was Mister Maker, Animal Guys, Justin Fletcher that was it everything...

Accommodation: Rooms: Stayed in a gold apartment, and it was worth the extra! The bedrooms were pretty big, even the singles. I wished the singles had nightlights like the master bedroom did, I thought that this would make sense as children are more likely to sleep in single bedrooms and dislike the dark. Also found it weird that the master bedroom had no proper charger. But apart from those minor details, I liked my single bedroom- the beds were comfy and clean and I had an amazing nights sleep. The room itself was well-kept. No major issues. Kitchen/dining area: I personally had no issues. I think there was enough room for people and food in there. However, housekeeping forgot to clear out our bin so we had to use a carrier bag for our rubbish. Living room: Nice, homely feel. I liked the view. The sofas were comfortable, apart from the pillows that kept sliding off. Bathroom: Mostly clean, no issues apart from the stiff shower door which really annoyed me. WiFi: Bad connection

Accommodation rating: 4.5/5

Things to do: Arcades: There were two separate arcades, both with loads of things to do, I had a lot of fun with my younger cousins and niece here. The 2p machines were good, you don't have to spend hundreds of pounds to get a toy costing £1 like many 2p machines. I do not recommend most claw machines- I watched the machine and it purposely releases the prize so people cannot get it; it has those slippery grabber things too. VR headsets are okay- a bit smelly and glitchy but not bad for a quid or two. So I would recommend the arcade overall for something to do, but be careful with your tickets because children like to steal them. Rides: An absolute joke. My family and I remember, when I was a young'un there were many outdoor rides to go on and enjoy, but now there is only about 12. When I was there, around 3-4 of them were operating... AT 13:30! Middle of the afternoon! And when me and my cousin tried to go onto the swing ride, she couldn't go on because of her footwear (sandals), bearing in mind she had been on the ride with exposed footwear before. And it wasn't like her feet were going to be anywhere near they could hit something either. The ride operator was rude and unsympathetic about it too, despite my cousin being a 7-year-old excited to go on a ride. Better off going to Fantasy Island, you have to pay money but at least they have working rides. Park: Skypark is absolutely great, and I would 100% recommend going to it. Skyline stage: A bit too young for me, but my cousins and niece enjoyed it Reds: Too loud for my liking, but that's preference. Children seemed to like it, they have quite a good few things to do on. Arcade up there is naff. The shop is rubbish too, advertises sweets and toys but only had toys there, and only has about 3-5 types of toys??? Toilets were smelly. Swimming: Main pool wasn't open for maintenance, so it was boring for me. Children enjoyed but also got bored after a short while too. Water-slides are fun. Soft Play area: It was fun, most staff were nice, but the kids preferred playing outside for some reason. Because I am a bit too old for soft play areas, I am going to review it as if I were my 2-year-old niece: "My aunt wasn't allowed in the big part so we had to go to the toddler bit. It was fun though. I loved the ice-cream slide and the spinning ponies. I think the main toddler slide was too dark for me, a bit scary. The video of the aquarium was scary too when that weird fish came up to the front of the screen. I think they should take into account that toddlers are scared by this easily"

Food: Most places stop serving food after a certain time apart from Burger King and Fish and Chip shop, both a bit too unhealthy for my liking. Fish a chip shop a bit naff, needs thicker gravy. The food at The Diner was good, and the children enjoyed it. Shops: Shop inside the Pavilion was way overpriced, the shop outside is much cheaper and better.

Would I recommend Butlins? Yes, I would. But not for more than 3 days because you will find...
