Visited during Father's Day as a spontaneous trip to the seaside and was the first visit since Covid and also after the fire gutted the building a few years ago.
It has always been a great place to go for a cheap carvery and while the quality back then was on par for the price, the new owners are still riding on the high of the previous owners.
We got to the Cherry Tree for just after 1pm and the place was busy as expected. We found a table quickly and got our receipt for the carvery. There was no beef and what meat was left was all carved into little chunks and was dry from the heat lamp, the only joint remaining whole was a turkey. The gammon and pork remained, as mentioned, chunks of meat dissected under the heat lamp.
The carrots were very al denté, only just being past raw due to the heating element in the container they were kept in. The peas, cabbage and cauliflower cheese were great and the only redeeming accompaniment to the meal.
I can accept that prices are going up everywhere, but after this meal, the quality has certainly dropped.
As we finished our meal around 2pm, some new customers came in and a few had already bought drinks and their carvery receipts, however, the carvery had already stopped before they visited and were left with ordering off the usual menu. Totally unexpected for any place running a carvery on Father's Day or a Sunday!
Verdict: if you have fond memories of the Cherry Tree pre-covid or pre-fire, keep those memories and dine elsewhere. Also don't go expecting a carvery after 2pm...
Read moreI believe the place has sadly gone down hill on this visit. We visit every year and the foods always been piping hot and delicious but this time we visited was disappointing we put our order in and within 5 minutes it was already at our table the steak pie wasn't the best and the mash was thick and the vegetables was cold, the Doner wrap that is also served reminded us of the oven cooked out of the box but it tasted like it had already been cooked then just reheated, the burgers are delicious though I would give 10/10 on their burgers.
I am giving 1 star for their hospitality the staff has always loved been lovely and friendly.
I am giving another star on the hygiene of the venue it was nice and clean and very pleasant to be in.
I am giving a 3rd star based on my meal which was the burger it was delicious and the proper home made chips that was served with it was also delicious.
Sadly 2 stars are lost based on the other 4 plates of food that came out which was not the best we all sampled abit of eachothers and all agreed that this time the experience wasn't fantastic and we hope in the future if we return we can hopefully change this review and get it up...
Read moreWas really looking forward to visiting as we haven’t been since before Covid locked us all down. The decor looks better but the food has gone seriously down hill. Ordered fish and chips and a burger special along with 2 kids meals. Asked for salt and was told they’d run out. Fish was seriously over cooked and tasted bland without salt. Burger was mediocre and I ended up leaving my chips and salad due to no salt. Would have given zero stars if I could have. Will not be visiting again. Tip for staff - try being a bit more courteous when you’ve run out of something. Don’t try and insult your customers. Nip out and get some salt. It’s not expensive and available almost everywhere.
After reading the owners response :- Firstly, the bank holiday weekend was the following week end and I did speak to a member of staff. You didn’t try and rectify the situation, you just ignored the fact that you had...
