We visited on a Thursday afternoon and the park was popular with dog walkers, older/disabled and parents/grandparents out with young children. We were aged 82, 85, 68 and 30ish with one In a wheelchair and 2 with sticks. It appears to be a very safe place even for solo women. There is plenty of free parking around the parks several entrances The park is extremely well maintained and and planted mainly with mature trees and shrubs and it is spotlessly clean. The very clean and non smelly toilets join onto the cafe Although it's not a large cafe it has an extensive menu and caters to all tastes, see photos. I recommend the shredded chicken and stuffing bun with gravy a d hot chocolate with marshmallows. Directly next to the cafe is a fenced childrens play area which is currently closed for rebuilding as new play equipment is installed. It will be open for thr school summer holidays. It is close enough to the cafe to keep an eye on the kids while they tire themselves out. A short walk and you come to the bandstand which is surrounded by flowering plants There are steps down or a level path to get to the pond which is quite large and has numerous ducks, geese and swans and currently lots of baby chick's, goslings and cygnets (swans) and pigeons. Some of the geese will feed from your hands. Food for them can be bought at the cafe counter, currently 75p for a decent size bag. There are many commemerative benches and trees throughout the park and a few sculptures and commemerative plagues. See photos. There are tennis courts and a bowls green although we didnt see them this time. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time or walking ability to investigate more of the park but we have already...
Read moreRopner Park is an absolute beauty, and we had a lovely day wandering around this picturesque gem. It’s like something out of a postcard – beautiful lake, lovely walking paths, and plenty of space for the kids to run wild without crashing into grumpy adults. The coffee shop was a real treat too, serving up some tasty snacks and a cracking cuppa. It’s the kind of park that makes you think, "This is why I pay council tax!"
Now, onto the entertainment – or should I say, the unintentional cabaret show? A large group of adults were having what can only be described as a midlife crisis on the kids' equipment. Honestly, it was like watching the cast of Dad’s Army try to tackle Ninja Warrior. There were falls, trips, and enough exposed bum cracks to start a plumber’s convention. Let’s just say, it wasn’t quite what you’d expect at a children's park, and not exactly what I was hoping to explain to my kids over ice cream.
That aside, Ropner Park is fantastic, and we’ll definitely be back—hopefully on a day when the adults aren’t staging their own version of a Carry On film...
Read moreThis park is truly fantastic for families, especially with its playground that seems to be designed with kids of all ages in mind! The equipment is engaging, safe, and offers plenty of options for toddlers, older kids, and everyone in between. My little 2-year-old had an absolute blast exploring, and I love that it encourages active play and socializing across age groups. However, as much as I appreciate the inclusive design, I do wish there was a bit more structure in terms of age-appropriate areas. My toddler was almost bowled over by a teenager zipping through on a bike. While I understand the challenges of enforcing strict age zones, it would be great to see some kind of system to keep everyone safe. Perhaps better signage, separate play areas, or even occasional monitoring could help keep the space enjoyable for all ages. Still, overall, it's an amazing place for kids to play and...
