Great place to come for walks and a bit of history. The Abbey was dissolved in 1540. It was the last monastic house in England to be surrendered to the Crown. Although, you can still see 14th century gatehouse and bridge that remains, as well as the walls of the post-medieval house that was built following its dissolution. We have visited in early evening and it still managed to see the beauty of this area, especially with all Christmas lights, which added extra magical feeling to it. Lots of ducks in the river minding their business. :) Beautiful garden. Lots of places to eat and shops. The car park is next to Waltham Abbey Gardens and is £1 first hour and afterwards £2 up to 24 hours. Nice place to bring your furry friends too!

Pleasant area to walk though today the weather was far from ideal so a bit muddy in places. From the car park you can stroll up through a walled garden area & across a stretch of grass that leads you to Waltham Abbey Church & highstreet beyond. In the churchyard you can find the resting place of King Harold. Some interesting architecture too.

Lovely place to walk around not much of it left but the church is well worth a look in but isn't always open. The sign said 10-4 while visiting today Wednesday in February King Harold's head stone is just behind the church. Parking is £1.10 for an hour and is situated behind the Abbey ruins plenty of space.

Great picnic spot with water birds, picturesque ruins and, if you're lucky, a fascinating visit to the Abbey which is rich in history from the 11th to the 17th century. The main drawback is that it's really hard to know in advance whether you'll find it open or not. There's a great cycle route from East London up the Lea Navigation, with no chance of getting lost. Be mindful of the pedestrian priority. The tie path is marred by the odds boy racer on his bike and, occasionally, an inconsiderate...

An interesting stroll around simple, but attractive, grounds around the old abbey. The information boards within the grounds are interesting. Sadly, the archway leaving to, what I believe, were the cloisters is very messy. It's a shame to leave it in that state as the rest of the grounds are beautiful.

I must say that after a brief wander around the town with my dog, I noticed that many local people seemed to be very friendly. So, I really enjoyed my few hours...
