Erewash Museum in Ilkeston is a little off the beaten path,as it's tucked away at the rear of the market place. At the top of Bath Street the block paved market place starts. On this area are the public toilets and Witherspoon's pub the Observatory, just to the right hand side of the Observatory is an old style Jetty. This is about 100 metres long, at the end of this to the right is the museum. I visited as this is a long weekend of model railway exhibits, many layouts are on show. Of particular interest are working models of the 2 stations which were in Ilkeston in the middle of the last century, Ilkeston North and Ilkeston South, one was the Great Northern Railway, the other London Midland Scotland(LMS). Of the 2 models, (I'm sure the other exhibitors will agree) the most intricate in meticulous detail was the LMS model, it is a credit to its constructor. This must have taken numerous hours to make. Other museum exhibits include Stanton Ironworks and many more. Well worth a visit, be quick and catch the railway models as Sunday is...
