I occasionally work at the docks, within the construction and ship refit industries. There is a lot of history in this city if you seek it and especially the docks and what remains of the old city. Not many people realize something about the docks, it's all on reclaimed land. The area around the train station was marshland and beach. The sea once reached as far as the city walls and ive seen the ground under the walls.Gravel and seashells. The area around dock gate 4 sits on mud.So now you know.If you are visiting by cruise ship you will come into dock gates 4,8or 10.I've worked at the docks, repairing them usually.I also went on the shortest cruise in history, from berth 103 to 46 berth for the refit of the SS Canberra, waving at the crowd. The cruise industry has expanded recently,as has the container terminal.

Southampton nice place to visit for a day weekend not really . You get I’d in every pub even when you’re clearly over 21 . Lot of homeless and beggars Titanic museum was a disappointment for 21.00 for 2 adults. I wouldn’t bother wasting your money Parking expense ,

Went to see port of TITANIC. It was very busy port with number of cruise ships including Independence of Seas. Although they have moved Titanic museum to some other part of city but still it was worth watching and visiting port.

GRIDLOCKED TOWN - unable to get a taxi - any taxi to the train station from Queen Elizabeth II Cruise Terminal. After queuing for an hour and not moving in a line over 100 deep. I rang every mini cab firm and got nowhere. Resorted with other passengers to walk over 2 miles lugging our suitcases behind us. I don't know if I felt more sorry for myself or those in taxis waiting in gridlocked traffic trying to get into the cruise terminal - the price would have been astronomical!

As a busy port, maybe they should consider tram link / rail link / car routeway that means you don't get congested within the town.

The cruise staff were helpful in giving directions and honest about the distance to travel.

If travelling for a cruise, I sincerely suggest getting to Southampton the the night before or leave yourself a few hours to get to the port.

A journey that should have taken 5 minutes took 2 1/2 hours and a further hour to wait on a train, as missed our earlier connection.

Come on Southampton you...

Went to join MSC Virtuosa, for my 1st ever cruise. Was not terribly easy to find the gate en route though, signage a bit sparse and small, but we found it. Terminal is lovely, looked quite new, with lots of covid measures in place throughout. Very nice staff throughout. Had pre-booked disabled assistance; was dropped off and given a wheelchair and helper who took me through the lengthy process and journey from the front of the terminal right into our cabin on board - definitely use this service if any mobility issues, it would have been a long and exhausting journey unaided. Also for return, got taken right to the pick up/drop off point from muster...
