I think, like a lot of people, whenever there is a tourist attraction close by, you take it for granted. You always assume you'll get round to it at some point and time passes and you realise you still haven't done it. As it was for me and visiting Devenish Island. Crazy to think that as a local who studied Archaeology and having lived in Fermanagh all my life I've only just gotten round to it. But I can tell you it was worth the wait and a large part of that is because of the fantastic experience offered by the Erne Water Taxi service. Our guide on the day was Barry and he honestly couldn't have been nicer, friendlier or more knowledgeable and approachable on the tour. It was full of enlightening facts and illuminating observations. The entire tour flew by in the best possible way and you leave having visited a wonderful history site and with a whole new appreciation and knowledge not just on Devenish Island but the surrounding area, including Enniskillen itself. I honestly can't recommend this service enough, the only regret I have is not doing it sooner and I'd be more than happy to do it again sometime because the whole trip was a wonderful, pleasant experience. If your in two minds, don't be, just do it. You won't regret it and a big thank you to Barry. Now I can call myself a proper...
Read moreThe star of the show on our trip to Enniskillen - a unanimous verdict from mum, dad and kids aged 9, 7 and 4. Brian was a fantastic tour guide, a wealth of local knowledge and anecdotes.
We did the Devenish island tour, would highly recommend - we departed from the jetty beside Enniskillen castle and got some great history and local info on the town. Then we tied up at Devenish island and got a great tour (it's really worth a visit!).
The boat itself was very comfortable, just a brilliant way to explore the Lough and kids got a great kick out of the higher speed bits of the trip. Throughout Brian was an excellent host - you won't be disappointed.
On a final note, would say that Enniskillen itself is a lovely town to visit lovely people, lots of places to eat, an idyllic riverside setting and lots to see and do in the town and...
Read moreMy wife and I were the only two people on the tour with Brian on this particular rainy day in May 2025. I cannot tell you how much we have enjoyed the magical experience. It was profoundly emotional to have spent some extremely peaceful, quiet, serene time on the Devenish Island. The surrounding, the hills, the water, the rain, the air, the wild life, it was incredibly humbling to not just see but to feel. Brian was extremely knowledgable, we couldn't have asked for a better guide. His passion was obvious and infectious. Any one would fall in love with the place, with the history, with the nature within minutes when Brian starts speaking. The tour was not rushed. The boat was steady. The ride was comfortable. You will be given life jackets. Getting on and off the boats was easy. 10/10. Would definitely recommend anyone...
