Stunning, Serene, and Absolutely Refreshing – Grasmere Waters Is a Hidden Gem

Grasmere Waters is one of those places that quietly takes your breath away. Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, it combines the raw beauty of untouched nature with a peacefulness that’s increasingly hard to find. The water itself—calm, glassy, and framed by rolling hills and woodlands—offers a picture-perfect reflection of the surrounding landscape. Whether you're here for a peaceful walk, a quiet paddle, or simply to sit and soak in the view, it's hard not to feel recharged.

It’s less commercial than nearby Ambleside or Windermere, which is part of its charm. Fewer crowds, more space to think, and endless photo opportunities. If you're lucky, you might catch mist rising off the water in the morning or the sunset casting golden hues across the surface.

A must-visit if you’re exploring the Lakes. Just remember to bring your walking shoes and a thermos—you'll want to...

Warning for swimmers. We went to beautiful Grasmere water for a swim. We wanted to swim the full length of the lake stopping off at the island. We left from Rydal beach Southern part) which was perfect for swimming and set off to reach the island which took about 30minutes. We then walked over the island and got back in the water to carry on up the lake where we intended to get out as close to the village as possible. Stupidly we didn’t check out whether this was doable and although we aimed for a jetty that we could see on google maps it was almost impossible to find somewhere to get onshore. The lake in the northwest corner became very shallow and filled with weed and very sludgy bottom. It was really tough to fight through the mud and weed and was too difficult to walk but also hard to swim. The lake is stunning and lovely for swimming but I would avoid the...

If you search "Lake District", you'll often find a photo of rolling mountains, perfectly reflected in the water below. You find that here.

You also find a more peaceful place than Rydal to the east. The swans gently paddling across your view, as you hide beneath the trees during a random rainstorm. Watching the clouds flow above and between the peaks on the other side of the water. It's all a little slower here, and I was in no rush to move...
