On my second visit to Grasemere Tea Gardens, I was pleasantly surprised. Due to the limited vegetarian options in the area, I decided to give the place another try. This time, I ordered the jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, which was unavailable during my first visit. The jacket potato was fantastic—large, perfectly cooked, with a generous amount of delicious cheese and coleslaw that was almost as good as homemade. The accompanying salad with vinaigrette was once again a standout, particularly the mustard seeds, which were exceptional. I’d love to know more about them! Please reply to me with the name of those.
The service during both visits was superb! The staff was amazing and they never left me waiting for anything and I appreciated the freedom to choose my seating.
Reflecting on my first visit, my experience was less favorable. I had a cheese and onion panini and a cup of tea, expecting a refined tea selection from a place known as a "tea garden." Unfortunately, the tea was a standard market teabag with limited options. The panini was disappointing; the onions were overly strong and overpowering, though the cheese was decent. However, those who enjoy a strong onion flavor might appreciate it. The highlight of this meal was undoubtedly the salad with vinaigrette, which was the best I’ve ever had.
A couple of suggestions for improvement: Consider using larger plates. The generous portions make it challenging to keep everything on the small plates provided. The indoor dining area needs better ventilation. It was stuffy and had an unpleasant odor during my first visit.
In summary, my second experience at Grasemere Tea Gardens was much more satisfying, and I am happy with the improved quality of the food and the...
Read moreA disappointing experience. The food was heavily overpriced. The panini's we're underfilled and flavourless (this could have been overlooked to a degree, but not at the price we were charged for them). Ordered two earl grey teas and got a pot big enough for 1 person (this again wasn't cheap, so the single person sized pot made it doubly expensive). While most members of staff were very pleasant the girl serving at the till point seemed to be ill suited to a customer facing role. The ambience of the balcony terrace, albeit potentially lovely, felt a bit weird due to the multiple signs asking customers not to feed the jackdaws and others excising that you were being recorded on CCTV. Grasmere offers plenty of better options for coffee and lunch within a 1 minute walk, so I really couldn't recommend this place. It's a shame, because I've got really find memories of the tea room that was here when I was a child, sitting out on the terrace, feeding the birds - maybe this has biased my review a bit, but on balance there's no need to be for poor quality when the village has other much...
Read moreThis is an absolute must do addition to any Grasmere visit. No easy feat when sharing a location with the other nearby attractions. Premises looked light, airy and inviting on entry and the staff were genuinely helpful and friendly. Food and drink was reasonably priced and did not take long to arrive at the table (maybe helped by not being busy) I ordered the flapjack and it was so thick I think I could have stood it sideways on the plate and not have noticed the difference. The star of the show here though was the location itself. Outside seating on the edge of a lazy bend in the river, overlooking the church of St Oswald and the Dafodil garden on the other side. It provided one of those life moments that I never felt like moving on from. Arrive early if you can to have a better chance of some of the limited outdoor seating. An absolute must visit this one, not just as a rest stop from what you are doing but as a part of the attraction in...
