Leave no trace - Keep these special places litter free!
I visited these falls for the first time yesterday with the intention of doing a litter pick. I didn't know what to expect and hadn't contacted the park beforehand. Just wanted to hike, enjoy the falls and collect what I could to help out.
The falls themselves are incredible! Beyond the well maintained paths and stairs there is opportunity to scramble and explore off the beaten track. Walking on jutting cliff edges and inside overhangs gives a real sense of adventure, all the while feeling the cool air pressure generated by the falls and hearing the river rushing below you - It's really awe-inspiring! I visited during a period of medium flow, which was perfect, but I have seen imagery of it at max throughput, and I have to say that some of the routes might become quite dangerous and scary at times.
Just like most unique and special places these days, there is an unfortunate selfishness among some visitors who bring in packed food items and then make the conscious decision to discard this in inappropriate places - Right by the falls, down the embankments, in the bushes - None of these places are the bin, where they should be placed - Do people really need to be told this in 2023? If you are able to carry this stuff in with you, then surely you can carry it back to the carpark, so that others can enjoy these places like you did before you left your junk.
Is there any point in mentioning irresponsible dog owners in this review - Compostable bags does not mean hanging it from a tree, throwing it in the river or flinging it somewhere else...
Read moreWell, this place is so beautiful with wild nature showing itself with such majesty. I parked at the Comin Y Rhos car park as that's closer to the waterfall track. It is gravel and small but also free with a snack shack nearby. The main trail is well maintained with gravel where appropriate. The trail down to waterfalls is difficult for less mobile or unfit persons as they are both rocky and with steps that are sometimes up to 18inch deep, so be aware before you set off and wear appropriate footwear. Wild swimming in certain pools at the base of waterfalls is popular with some, so bring a towel. Though it is very cold, the water is also so clear. The Sgwd yr Eira waterfall is the one you can go behind the curtain of water and is so amazing as the water cascades over the top you will get wet from the spray 😀. To get behind, you can access it from both sides but if the water is running fast then not recommended to cross the river. If you can get there, you will love it, but it is a...
Read moreLovely location for a small hike. Parking is £5 for the day and when we arrived it was relatively busy. But there is a burger place and toilets just down the road from the car park before you set off and when you return. Unfortunately we never got to try the burgers because by the time we got back they had run out, so probably better to go earlier if you are hoping to eat there. The walk itself starts off simple with gravel tracks that eventually lead to more challenging routes, with slippery rocks, small pathways with lots of roots, so bring your hiking boots and long socks or jeans because it does get more difficult. Or if you want to chill out by the waterfall and have a picnic, we saw several people doing that, some were even swimming. It's a beautiful place with vivid scenery, well worth a day out. I look forward to the...
