What can I say day started well weather was fab had a few wins spent a fortune..... name of the game when racing ! These tickets were booked by my wonderful boyfriend as a bday present as I am a massive fan of Tom Jones waited months for it. He had also booked close proximity bands so I had a better view as knew it would be busy. What a shambles it was !!!! We went with friends who didn't have these bands and made our way towards the stage . Our friends didn't have the bands so we proceeded to leave them with a pretty decent view of the stage. When arriving at our designated area we had absolutely no view at all I mean in could see a fence and some boxes . .... I was sure this couldnt be right so asked security who confirmed I was in the right place ..... I noticed at this point that people without bands were just strolling in!! So out of curiosity we called our friends and asked them to try walking in after being assured by security only banded people were gaining entry ... and low and behold they strolled straight in not even checked ... after a while I'd got a bit upset as couldnt see a thing so we decided to try and get a better view elsewhere but alas the place was swarming by this point. Needless to say I wont be returning for any other events this ruined my birthday present i am completely gutted . After complaining have been offered free premier tickets to another event ... well firstly I'd have to take time off work .... secondly there wont be Tom Jones and thirdly why on earth would I want to go there again and spend more money ??? On what planet is this a gesture of good will ? To say I'm disappointed upset and furious is an...
Read moreThe long bar in the Premier section really ruined our first experience at Newbury races. The staff were clearly new and had never been trained to even pour a pint, there was so much wastage. Having worked in a bar it was painful to see. We waited over an hour for a drink. This resulted in us missing 2 of the horse races we'd gone there to see. There was no queuing system like all the other bars in the vicinity. It was a free for all for who could get a drink first and unfortunately some of the bar staff were choosing to serve the young lads who had been waiting 10 minutes instead of people who had been waiting alot longer. The manager was rude and not interested that so many of us were upset and frustrated with how we were being treated. At one point the bar lady serving our section had disappeared because she couldn't handle the situation. I felt sorry for the young bar staff, they had clearly been thrown in with little or no training and expected to work under the pressure of a busy bar. It's the management and organisers that are disgraceful for letting this happen. We bought Premier tickets and this was definitely not a Premier service. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because we all enjoyed olly murrs, he turned our day around. Without seeing him perform we would of left being angry and disappointed with our day. otherwise I would of given 0 stars. We won't...
Read moreI know Newbury racecourse well. There was a bumper turnout for the Greenham meeting yesterday (Saturday the 12th of April 2025). Management have been promoting the meeting more than usual in targeting people from the locality. It added to the atmosphere, and the profits of the course. It did make it a bit tight on the stands and around the pre-parade paddock (I prefer the old one!) but well done.
Newbury should be bold and have a mixed flat/jump meeting in the spring and autumn. They used to have a three day autumn mixed meeting, flat on Thursday, Jumps on Friday and both codes on the Saturday. I keep being told that it’s not popular, that’s why mixed meetings, barring the Haydock Swinton Hurdle meeting, have stopped.
The mixed meetings were poorly promoted and the narration over the tannoy on the day does little to inspire and stoke up the intrigue of the crowd at Haydock, unlike the once mixed Whitbread Gold Cup meeting at Sandown… they even had a jump vs flat jockey race. A flat and jump meeting would both attract and be educational for a bumper weekend/family crowd, many new to racing. Newbury is the perfect venue for...
