M & R Barbers — Attraction in Guildford

Did not have the best experience with these barbers today. I do not think this review reflects them all the time, but my visit was not great.

You have to book your appointment through an app called Booksy, which is a bit convoluted and unnecessary. Why I can I not just book through a website?

When entering, I was basically ignored despite being the only other customer there. The only interaction (before deciding to leave) was being questioned as to whether I had booked an appointment.

Finally, the nail in the coffin was that despite having a booking system, there was an inability to stick to time slots. I came in during my lunch break and had to wait 15 minutes until I had to call it off. Who knows how long I would have had to wait. To top it off, another customer walked in and got immediate service.

I really don't know whether I came in on a bad day, but this really wasn't a good impression, especially as I would have been a regular customer.

The staff were nice and I was given a free coffee however, the barber I had was clearly very inexperienced. The skin fade I got was not good and when I got home I realised there were bits that were missed so I have had to shave them off myself.

When I arrived there was also a big miscommunication. The barber told me he had something to do in 15 minutes and asked if I could wait. I was a walk in so was expecting to wait a bit anyway. I was not aware that the thing he had to do in 15 minutes was cut hair for someone who had booked, so I had to wait a total of 40 minutes. If ide known this I would have gone elsewhere.

After the long wait and bad haircut I then had to pay £28 - I’ve had haircuts for half the price that are much better. I normally don’t leave reviews but the combination of these things left me feeling pretty ripped off. The haircut and price being the main annoyance.

I have been visiting M and R barbers for at least 8 years now. Myself and my son have a re-occurring appointment with Raff or one of his skilled barbers. I have found the staff patient and accommodating with regards to my own time keeping and the temperament of my once toddler-aged son. Raff is passionate about his craft and engaging in conversation. I have enjoyed the beverages on offer during my many visits. I find the process almost automated due to the ease of picking a slot on the app and a barber waiting upon our arrival. We have regular haircuts and I have now added a beard trim to the booking. My father-in-law who lives in the north of the country still books in to see Raff during his regular visits(which is a review unto itself) There is always a smile on our faces leaving the barbers due to its relaxing environment and quality haircuts.
