You have GOT to try this. If I could, I would have rated it with more than 5 stars My Grandchildren loved it. The Open Day was especially good because of bus rides through Ipswich on an open top bus. Riding on the top deck of an open top bus with a bus full of shrieking children, parents and grandparents on a warm sunny day. Everyone waving at any members of the public out on the streets. It's amazing, people who wouldn't give you a second glance, but when they get waved at by a bus full of children, everyone smiles and waves back. Young or old, men, women and children they all smiled and waved back. Definitely had a party atmosphere, like we had won the FA cup or Premier league. It was exhilarating and uplifting, when we got off it had the "feel good" factor. Like a child, you wanted to "go again" but there were too many people for that. The Open Day was staffed by really helpful, chatty , happy volunteers who really worked hard. It makes such a difference when the people who run an event are actually passionate about the project they are...
Read moreThis museum is truly Heaven for those interested in machines, especially of an era that produced PROPER cars, vans, lorries, etc. Almost anything with wheels is represented in the Ipswich Transport Museum, from pushbikes & handcarts, through to the heaviest of powered vehicles, including combine harvesters & specialist HGVs. There's 2 categories of exhibits on show; 1 ~ vehicles that served the public, whilst operated by Ipswich Borough Council; (including transport & emergency services), 2 ~ vehicles constructed in Ipswich factories, by locally founded companies; Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies; Ransomes & Rapier Cocksedge Crane's Compair Reavell Ipswich being an agricultural town, means that vehicles intended for farm use figure throughout the collection. The quantity of machinery on display is staggering, & even more so to consider that it was all restored by volunteers. Just a shame that the museum closes out of...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful time at the Transport Museum today. There is plenty to see, everything is beautifully presented and full of charm. There is something for everyone, my two children (3 and 8 months,) absolutely loved it, particularly the model railway (they could have played with it for hours!) There is a really lovely play area with a little bus that they can clamber into and an amazing fire engine with beautiful attention to detail. We were all able to have a good look at the displays, including getting on board some of the old buses and fire engines! They were all kept immaculately clean. The staff were fantastic, so knowledgeable and very friendly. We had a delicious lunch (excellent cheese toasties,) and great coffee. Couldn't fault it. We will definitely be back! Our only criticism is that it isn't open all year around as the little ones want to go all the time (but understand...
