I travelled here with my daughter on a Sunday early afternoon, baking the traffic due to local roadworks got here only to find out that Kirklees council in their wisdom keep the car park locked so you can't use it. Had to abandon car by car park entrance then we went cycling around the park and on the cycle route it links to. The concept of the park is great albeit my daughter was disappointed there were no child playing facilities. The park does have a litter issue which is a shame, as does the connecting cycle route 66. Unsure whether we would travel over again from Calderdale given the negatives. particularly the parking. I do not understand why a council would build such a facility only to keep the car park locked on weekends?!

Lots of footpaths, will get better as all the trees grow. It would be better if there were markers on each path because it gets confusing which path to take. The big paths are hard and are OK for prams, cycles and wheelchairs. It can get very boggy on some of the small footpaths.

Quiet, good for dog walking but limited parking and no facilities at all, not even 1 rubbish bin in the entire park. Location boards are orientated wrongly you have some upside down so you have to try and look behind you to see where you want to go.

Considering its origins as a landfill site they have done a great job of creating this vast outside space. However it feels as though they have used all of the original investment to make it happen but haven't considered things like maintenance. Parts of it already look a little worse for wear.

On the occasions I've visited the handy car park has been closed despite it being a reasonable hour. I think they have had gypsy issues in the past but it seems crazy to force visitors onto adjoining roads and annoying residents.

The highlight for me is the Spen Valley Greenway which is a safe traffic free place to cycle & walk. It's also lined with interesting art.

In summary it has potential but it needs the resources to unlock this after solid foundations have been...

A former landfill site and it tells. Considering it is the only real open green space around it is also really poorly maintained. Kirklees council really need to invest In this space so that residents can enjoy the space. The river is extremely polluted with wet wipes which I can only assume is from a sewage outlet. There was a large amount of litter all around the park. When I was there the car park was closed. I can only assume this was due to covid- all though I'm not sure why you would close the car park as people are allowed to drive to exercise under current...
