Amazing visit here at Carnforth Train Station two older men who were volunteers at the heritage centre told me and my kids the history of the train station...Took us thro to try on some of the props from the famous film Brief Encounter that was made here ... The kids and I have had a great time looking round at old phones typewriters and old memorabilia from the old times....I myself would recommend you take a visit here and sit in the cafe which was the main film set and have a coffee ..lots of choice on their menu....This place bought back memories for me of my grandmother who loved the film and would've loved visiting here....

had a superb day out . had coffee and the biggest and bestest bacon buttie ever before exploring the heritage museum. fascinating , tons of railwayana and the connection to " brief encounter " they show the film and you can sit on old cinema seats . the staff and volunteers were lovely , friendly, helpful , informative and nothing too much trouble . there was a dress up table and a train carriage cut out to recreate a scene from the film and be Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson or even the staionmaster Stanley Holloway. a lot to see on one visit . i would go back , maybe next year when the film is eighty years old !

The heritage centre although small is full of fascinating memorabilia from a bygone era. I went specifically for the memories from 'Brief Encounter' where I wasn't disappointed. There is a room dedicated to David Lean's film legacy with well displayed material and information. Brief Encounter is on constant play, I dipped into it halfway though and witnessed some of the best scenes filmed at Carnforth Station, it felt special to be watching the film at the location.

Lovely museum of the film Brief Encounter and David Lean in general, also a railway museum and a nice exhibition of photography of railways when we visited. The volunteers who work here were all very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Seems the place is run on donations, love and enthusiasm and I was happy to support. The adjoining Bar and Bistro was also really nice, just had a cup of tea there, the service was great and it's a really nice place. They had a good selection of drinks but was a bit early in the afternoon for me to get on the doubles ! Very glad we visited and will do so again...
